Hermione opened the door to her flat as an unconscious Draco Malfoy levitated behind her. She had apparated out of Knockturn Alley but she knew she couldn't take him to the ministry. There were far too many people there who would love to see the last free Malfoy get locked up in Azkaban. Hermione also knew how easily someone could spin this attack back onto him especially because no one had seen the attackers faces to her knowledge.

She didn't know where else to take him. She decided her flat would be the safest for now. All she wanted to do was ask him a few questions and help to fix him up. She slowly dropped his levitating body onto her living room couch and shut the front door. Now all she had to do was wait for him to wake up.

After about 30 minutes Hermione heard muttering and groaning coming from the living room. She put her tea down on the kitchen counter and rushed in to see Draco waking from unconsciousness.

"Draco?" She asked as she slowly knelt down next to the couch so she was at eye level with him. He held his head and wiped his eyes before fully processing what was going on.

"Granger? Where am I? What am I doing here?" He asked as he sat up confusedly.

"Draco you were attacked. I found you down an alley this evening about an hour ago. You're in my apartment. I didn't really want to risk taking you to the ministry with everything that's been going on. I thought it would be best to talk first." Hermione said.

"Oh my god." Draco sighed. Hermione looked alarmed.

"Do you remember this all happening?" Hermione asked him. He nodded slowly.

"The last thing I remember is getting cornered in that alley and then getting nearly beaten to death. Before you ask, no I have no clue who that was. I suppose they're part of that insolent little group outside my house every morning." Draco said.

"I would suspect the same. Although I wasn't aware they'd been personally harassing you. Has anyone ever been physically violent toward you before this?" Hermione asked.

"No. I have shields and charms up around the grounds of my house so that no one can get in. I rarely leave but I needed to pick up a few things at Diagon Alley this evening. I remember peering down Knockturn Alley and the next thing I know I'm getting dragged into darkness and beaten up." Draco said. Hermione was shocked. Sure Draco had done some nasty things but he didn't deserve any of this. He was just a kid when the war happened. They all were.

"I'm so sorry Draco. I can't believe people would do this. I knew they were protesting toward your imprisonment but I never thought anyone would hurt you." Hermione said. Draco looked into her eyes. They were warm and caring. No one cared for Draco anymore. It was hard for him to believe any of this was happening right now. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was a dream. He blinked a few times to make sure. Nope, all real. He had been attacked... and he was sitting on Hermione Granger's couch.

"I believe it. I'm starting to think I deserve it." He didn't know why he was being so honest with her.

"Don't say that Draco, it's not true." Hermione said. Draco thought it was nice to hear his name. He hadn't talked to anyone in a long time really. His mother was in prison for three more years and his father had a lifetime sentence. Not that he disagreed with either sentence, he just got lonely now. Blaise hadn't been writing much and any other friend had dropped him in hopes of cleaning up their reputations before the trials.

"Sorry." He replied.

"I have more questions for you but first we should get you fixed up yeah?" Hermione said. Draco hadn't realized how terribly his head was pounding and how much dried blood was on his face.
