"Good morning!" Harry said as he climbed onto the bench and sat down next to Hermione and across from Ron, ready to eat breakfast.
"Morning." Ron said with a mouth full of toast. Hermione groaned a response. Her head was down and she laid it on the table.
"Didn't get good sleep Mione?" Harry asked. She groaned again.
"Not any." Hermione then said.
"How come?" Ron said and then continued to slurp down his orange juice.
"The girls were up ALL night talking about who they're going to take to the Christmas Ball. It's not even for another month! I was just trying to sleep but apparently their relationships are more important!" Hermione was becoming more awake now that she was fired up.
"Yikes." Harry said and began reading the Daily Prophet.
"Did any of them say anything about me?" Ron asked.
"No, all they could talk about was Harry and Cormac." Hermione answered and gagged at Cormac's name.
"Well I'm already going with Ginny." Harry explained.
"Like that's going to stop them." Hermione huffed.
"Better watch what you're eating and drinking Harry." Ron said, pointing a fork at Harry's apple. Harry observed it wearily.
"So who're you going with then Mione?" Harry asked.
"Pft. Obviously she isn't going." Ron answered before she could say anything.
"And why would you think that?" Hermione glared at him.
"Because we all know you! You're going to stay up in the library and study. It's just how it is." Ron said.
"Ron aren't you forgetting fourth year? The Yule ball?" Harry suggested.
"That was a one-off! Plus, there's no Victor Krum types here for Hermione to miraculously get a date with." Ron said. Harry and Hermione's jaws dropped.
"Are you insinuating that I can't get a date?!" Hermione sputtered at him.
"Pretty much." Ron said.
"You're foul Ronald! Just because you're still jealous of Victor Krum doesn't mean you get to hold a grudge forever!" Hermione said.
"I am not still jealous! I just know you couldn't get a date! Plus almost everyone's already taken anyway." Ron said.
Hermione glared at him.
"In fact. Let's make a bet, shall we? How about... you have to get someone to go to the Christmas ball with you." Ron said.
"Fine that's easy." Hermione said.
"And... it has to be in the next five minutes, in this room." Hermione looked around, there were only a few people left in the Great Hall.
"What? That's completely unfair!" Hermione said.
"Chicken." Ron mumbled.
Hermione knew she had to prove Ron wrong.
"Fine! But if I win then I'm not doing your homework for the rest of the year." Hermione said.
"Deal. And if I win, you have to go with me and do my homework for the rest of the year." Ron said.
"Do we have a deal?" Ron asked.
Hermione smirked and stuck out her hand. Ron shook it.
"Game on." She said.Hermione glanced around the great hall. There were only a few guys in there. Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnegan, who were going with each other. Harry and Ron, obviously both out of the picture. Cormac Mclaggen, BARF. Theo Nott, mm no thanks, plus he was already going with Pansy. Ernie Macmillan who was going with Susan Bones. And last, Draco Malfoy.
Well this was just great.
But at least he would make Ron extra furious.
Hermione walked over to Malfoy and sat next to him.
"What do you want Granger?" He asked without even looking at her.
"Good Morning to you too Malfoy." Hermione said. He looked up at her and smirked.
"Anyway...." Hermione kept going.
"What are you doing?" Hermione asked.
"Eating my breakfast...." Malfoy answered.
"Hmm." Hermione said.
"What are you doing for Christmas?" Hermione asked, her heart rate was increasing now.
"Staying here. Mother is staying with Andromeda and Father... well... let's just say we don't get along." Draco said, rubbing his temples. Hermione's eyebrows furrowed.
"I'm sorry." Hermione said.
"Why should you be?" Draco said, making direct eye contact with her. This gave her a strange feeling.
"So what are you doing for Christmas then Granger?" Malfoy changed the subject.
"Staying here as well." Hermione explained.
"Really? Not joining the Weasel clan?" Malfoy asked.
"No. I feel kind of intrusive there ever since Fred died. I don't know why, it's doesn't make any sense. But I think this year they should have a family only Christmas." Hermione explained.
"Huh." Malfoy said.
"Yeah." Hermione said.
"So did you want something? Or did you just come over to chat?" Malfoy asked.
"Well... just listen." Hermione said. She had one minute left.
"How would you feel about going to the Christmas Ball with me?" Hermione asked quickly. Draco looked shocked.
"I mean... sure." He said.
"I know it sounds weird and you probably hate me and think that I hate you but- wait did you say yes?" Hermione asked. Draco nodded. Hermione's jaw dropped in a smile. She hugged him tightly and squealed.
When she let go Draco looked absolutely pink.
"Well. See you next Saturday Draco." Hermione said and blew him a kiss goodbye as she got up.
"Alright Hermione. My herbology essay is upstairs waiting for you." Ron said when Hermione came back.
"I don't know what you mean Ron." Hermione said with a smirk.
"I have a date to the Christmas Ball." Hermione then said. Ron's jaw dropped, the color drained from his face.
"Malfoy? SAID YES?" Ron stammered.
Hermione simply nodded with a smirk and turned to look at Malfoy, who was staring at the scene with great pleasure.
"See ya Ron." Hermione said and waved goodbye leaving Ron dumbfounded.
