  4th year
Hermione sat against a tall tree outside of Hogwarts. She read through her book intensely, intrigued by the story. Draco spotted her sitting there and smiled to himself, she was always reading. He kept walking towards Hagrid's hut for care of magical creatures.

On his way back to the castle from care of magical creatures class, Draco noticed Hermione was still sitting there but this time she was not reading. She was engaged in a heated argument with someone, oh it was Crabbe & Goyle. Malfoy grimaced, he wanted to interfere but he couldn't blow his cover. You see, Malfoy and Hermione had been friends for months ever since she came and apologized for punching him in the face. But he couldn't let anyone know or his father would kill him and more importantly, her. It was too dangerous. So Draco watched from a distance as they argued. It's not like Hermione needed his help anyway, she was fierce.
"Give me back my book!" Hermione stood up.
  "Why?" Goyle asked mockingly.
"Because it's mine and I would like to resume reading it." Hermione put her hands on her hips.
"Mmm no I don't think I will." Crabbe said and chucked the book into the forbidden forest.
  Hermione gasped.
"How rude!" Hermione stamped her foot.
Crabbe and Goyle laughed. They were so stupid to mess with her.
"Accio Hermione's book." Draco whispered. Her book came flying into his hands. The title read "Beauty & The Beast", he wondered what it was about.
He hadn't been paying attention to the argument for a moment and now looked back up. He saw Crabbe pulling Hermione's hair while Goyle had her in a headlock. Draco froze with anger. Threatening her was something he could stand by and witness but actually hurting her was unacceptable. He had to do something.
Draco thought, this was it, he had to blow his cover. He didn't have time to think up a different, logical plan.
He began to walk toward them and was about five feet away when Hermione pulled out her wand.
"Stupefy!" She yelled twice. Hitting them both. They both got knocked on their bottoms and Draco couldn't help but laugh. They both got up and ran immediately, looking terrified.
  Meanwhile Draco couldn't stop laughing.
Hermione noticed him there and looked in his hands.
  "Draco! My book!" Hermione gasped.
  He handed it to her.
"Thank you so much." Hermione hugged him.
  "No problem Granger." Draco said.
"You handled yourself pretty well just then." Draco commented as they walked back to the castle.
"What? You didn't think I could take them?" Hermione asked.
"No I knew you had it. I was just there for moral support." Draco corrected her.
"Ahh. So you were watching me the whole time?" Hermione asked.
  "Basically." Draco said.
"You're such a stalker Malfoy." Hermione bumped her shoulder against his and giggled. He smiled at her adorable giggle.
"Whatever you say Granger." Draco sighed, sometimes he wished they could be more than friends.
