A few days past before she opened the clinic again. She'd sent messages to all of her clients, referring them to seek other medical help whilst she completed "renovations", praying no one would question what's been done. Shouta hadn't spoken to her since their spat, and Hizashi did his best to run interference, but even he knew that it was something they'd need to work through on their own. It was 10pm on a Thursday night when she was finalizing some patient notes. She tapped her long nails along the sheets of paper, her other hand supporting her chin as her eyes trawled over the paper. She cursed under her breath at her own handwriting. She had a bad habit of letting her script go scrawly when she was in a bad mood, and now she was struggling to decipher the chicken scratch before her.
She let out a deep sigh before she suddenly heard a heavy thump against the front door, the noise loud enough to make her jump in her seat.
"(Y/N),"
That voice was one she thought about so often, but it sounded so pained. She looked up from her desk as he stumbled into the clinic, thankful that despite the closed sign, the door was still unlocked while she did her paperwork. She had come to expect him around this time at least once a week, and usually left it open for an hour or so past her decided closing time. Otherwise, he could ring the intercom bell, and she'd look after him as promised.
Dabi's bloodied fingers clutched at the outside of the doorframe, the cool steel painted red as his hand slid down. "(Y/N), fuck, please," his tone was strained, a grimace painted on his face as he settled against the door frame, weighty boots threatening to slide out from underneath him.Her entire body sprang into action at lightspeed- it felt as though one blink held her on her chair behind the desk, and the next, she was at his side with her heart in her throat. "Dabi!" she ran to him, catching his weight just as he was about to fall. "What happened? Talk to me, tell me." she was quick to have him sat down on the floor, maneuvering him to rest against her.
"Some f-fucking.. I don't know, but they... they almost got Toga so I stepped--" The air smelled awful around him. If she were being honest, he didn't have the most pleasant aroma about him by the end of the day, but this smelled like molten flesh and sourness. "--FUCK!" The sound that left him almost sounded like a whine. "I'm in charge of her so I needed to look after her and I..." he was rambling, so she gently grasped his chin, lifting it up so that his gaze was on her. She could see blood pooling around the staples that kept his under-eyes in the right spot.
Tears.
He can't cry.
"Dabi, baby, tell me what happened." The pet name panged in his chest as her hand moved up to brush the sanguine tears away, glowing red as soon as her fingers made contact with his blood. Immediately, he started to feel calmer, safer in her grasp. She could see the wild look in his eyes, a moment of fear when he realized that he couldn't protect himself this time.
"It's oxytocin, sweetheart. Tell me what happened." She repeated, knowing he liked to be aware of what she was doing and he nodded against her, head lulled back as the rest of him fought to keep the pain at bay. "She was gonna get hurt so I got in the way, but this guy... his quirk has to be some kind of acid or something, it... fuck, (Y/N), please, it burns." The words made her eyes widen as she looked down at his legs, where his calves were now exposed, the flesh mangled and covered in some type of milky corrosive substance. Whatever it was, it had burnt through the fabric of his jeans and, as she could now see, was now also sizzling against the linoleum of the floor. "Fuck, we need to get this off you." She said, taking a deep breath before she reached into her pocket, pulling out a switchblade and slicing open her arm. "W-what are you doing?" he breathed, his heart pounding in his chest and his eyes widening on her now bleeding arm. "Quiet, don't worry about it. I need a hand and there's no one around but you, so unless you're keen to get up and move yourself about, let me do my job."
