"If It Takes Forever":

By the end of September, The Doctor and his TARDIS left to carry out his punishment in the 20th Century (the Timelords still held him prisoner) and the Enterprise returned to Earth. This would leave Scotty, Uhura and Penda to go to Uhura's home at the Kitui Province of Kenya where, with family members close by, little Penda would grow into a happy baby.

As the Federation offered paid maternity and paternity leave for five years, the new parents spent every waking moment with their little girl. Yet, this would be cut short following Penda's first birthday. The Enterprise was to be remodeled and called both Uhura and Scotty to help with the assignment.

They were hesitant at first but, believing it would not take too long, the pair left their daughter with Uhura's sister, Samura, her husband Yafeu Ghabamusi and their son, Jamal. For the duration of the remodeling, Scotty and Uhura would visit Kenya as much as possible with the Ghabamusi's doing the same through shuttle crafts for visiting families. This would continue on with Penda's second birthday where it was celebrated on the Enterprise where she, Yafeu and Samara stayed for two weeks while eight-year-old Jamal was forced to stay in Africa with the flu. A week after the celebration, Samara and Yafeu took Penda, hopped aboard Lunar Shuttle 94 with five other passengers and headed to Earth. However, the craft would never reach home.

During the ride, all seemed well when a strange wormhole appeared. As the small ship was at the end of the blackhole, they were sucked in. The pilots tried to contact the Earth's docks but were cut off as they were pulled into the strange phenomenon. Moments later, the wormhole vanished.

Two days later and the Scott's had grown frantic; Samara would usually call them when the ship reached its destination. As they had gotten nothing this time, they naturally called the ports, along with Uhura's parents and two other siblings. Then the pair and other crew members affected would soon be visited by news of what had happened. The Federation were uncertain about any survivors but went on to investigate as much as they could. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do and five years later, the passengers of Lunar Shuttle 94 were all presumed dead.

During that uncertain decade, Scotty and Uhura adopted their nephew, Jamal as their son. Raising him with the help of Uhura's brother, Malcolm and his wife, Layla along with Uhura's sister, Uaekundu and her husband, Akil. While the family were incredibly saddened by the tragedy, they had all tried to pull throughout the years. Even though more horrors would occur with Scotty losing his nephew, Peter Preston, in 2285. However, things may finally turn around in 2293.
