"You should take a break, Jules." I glared at him over the rim of my magnifying glasses. This was the second time he did this. "Shut up. You distract me." I growled and lowered my gaze again to connect the nerve I was working on. "And you want me to do this properly, don't you?"
"I only sense that you're a bit tired. And understandably so. You're in deep concentration for five hours now. You need a break." I slammed the tools onto the table and tore the glasses from my eyes angrily."Just in case you didn't get it, David… as long as I'm attaching your arm I am the one in charge. Not… you! Is that understood now? I told you this fun will need about eight hours if I'm not disturbed… yet you disturb me the second time in two hours. Do me a favour and reload your energy cells… or go into rest mode… or whatever, but stop disturbing me, for fuck's sake! To attach your bones was a piece of cake, but to connect veins, muscles and nerves is a whole different level. Does this actually go into your fucking processor?!"
For the first time David looked totally surprised, even his jaw had dropped a small fraction. Of course he was surprised, I had never let him feel that I also had a temper at work… especially when someone wanted to be better at my job than I was.
I turned away from him and got me a cup of his magic black life elixir, downed it and put the glasses on again. "I asked you a question, David. Is that understood now?" I growled and glared at him and indeed he gave in and lowered his gaze. "Yes, Jules. I'll do as you say and stop disturbing you." "Finally… thank heavens." I huffed and picked up my tools again to proceed with my work. "But that doesn't change anything, Jules. You're still my pet." I took a deep breath… a very deep breath… and released it with a deep growl from my chest."For the moment, David, I am your Doctor… nothing else and nothing less. You can force me back onto my knees afterwards anytime, but at the moment… and for the duration of this work… I… am YOUR Master, David. And you will kindly do as I say, is that clear?"
He looked deeply into my eyes, but I did not yield. Not this time. This time I deserved his damn respect. This was my playground, period. Once more he slightly lowered his gaze… and nodded. "I'll do as you say, Jules." he said almost obediently. Yes! Gotcha! Rejoice, I had him on his knees. 'Indulge it as long as you can, Jules. This is a once in a lifetime occasion.' Yes, head… I know that myself, thank you…In fact it took me more than 10 hours to get David's arm attached, and the last one and a half hours I even needed his help, because without him trying to move his fingers, make a fist, move his wrist or other motions I would have tried to figure it out until the end of days. But finally I could close the skin over his synthetic muscles and watch it connect with his own arm. I put the tools onto the table and took my glasses off with a big sigh.
"Finished." I groaned and stretched and flexed my tensed shoulders. My bones and joints cracked severely and a sudden sting of pain let me scream. Damn… that felt like a trapped nerve! I started massaging my right shoulder while I tried to move my head carefully. I groaned and stopped these tries again. Not shoulder… neck… fuck! I should have listened to David and taken small breaks in between. Now it was too late… why did I always have to be so damn stubborn?
"What happened, Jules?" David asked, but I waved him off and rose from the chair, pressing my hand onto my neck. "Leave me… just a trapped nerve. I'll go to my quarters and lay down. Tomorrow it's gone again." I groaned. I shouldn't try to turn my head…
"Maybe I can help." he offered, but I waved him off and headed to the door. "No, you can't. I know my body quite well, thank you. You can do something different and check the full functionality of your wrist and hand. That would be tremendously nice and helpful. See you, David." I groaned and left the Lab. When entering my quarters I immediately dimmed the lights and threw my clothes from me before I fell onto the bed. Oh heavens, yes… this felt so good. Did it ever feel so good to just relax?
