Annoying Preparation (PT1)

It was a normal day in a small town created by... A candle. Yeah, weird, but the people inside surrounded by mountains are grateful for what they have and everyone around is joyful. Unfortunately, for a teenager who just wants to be left alone and live their days peacefully, people singing outside for no reason can be kind of irritating. Today was a special day for the village, a new gift was being given to one of the members of the madrigal family. (Y/n) couldn't remember the last time they went to a gift giving celebration since it was around 10 years ago. They don't even know if they went, honestly. They're parents weren't exactly the 'tell you everything they did' type.

It took a while for (y/n) to get out of bed, since there was a girl singing outside to some hyper children. They lived in the outskirts of the village yet they could still hear the voice of someone explaining the madrigal family tree. It was faint, but the girl had a nice voice. It wasn't that bad to listen to as they (brushed/combed) out their hair. (Y/n) didn't know if the gift giving celebration was for specific people or if anyone could come, so they decided to just subtly walk inside Casita when everyone is already there and busy.

(Y/n) had only seen glimpses of the madrigal family here and there when they were getting supplies for the next few weeks of their lives. They learned the name of Mirabel and her abuela of course, but no one else. Everyone they saw in the family were conventionally attractive - even a fifty year old cloud woman. To pass the time, (y/n) played chess with their self and won. Always. It's been a long two years for them but they were okay with it. Besides, all one person truly needs is their mind to keep them occupied. Usually they would just stay in bed all day and night thinking about how stuff could be and what could be beyond the mountains.
(Y/n)'s parents mentioned more people outside of the village but it's not like anyone could scale the mountains and see it for themselves. But not being on contact with other people is what keeps them safe. The madrigal family sacrificed a lot so this town can be free of danger. (Y/n) wasn't exactly keen in speaking to anyone new so it's not exactly like they have friends or company over.

It's been a long time since they're house has been thoroughly cleaned so they've developed a sneezing thing. They sneeze more than a person should and honestly it frightens them sometimes, because they heard every time someone sneezes their heart stops. But among many things, it doesn't bother them.

The sky started to become darker as night creeped out of the clouds. People in the town were making their way to the magical house to hopefully see a child's gift being given. (Y/n) placed the book they were reading on their bed upside down, to make sure they wouldn't lose their page, and started to head out themselves. They had heard the last magic ceremony was a disappointment, and one of the children didn't get any power, which is kind of depressing to have people surround you with amazing abilities and all you can do is use your own two feet.

After a long walk, the house they stood in front of was bright and vibrant - filled with color and magic. They've never been this up close to Casita, so it's a surprise to see candle lights from weird shaped windows appear in front of their eyes. The doors were still open but almost nobody was outside so they just walked in, squeezing through the crowd, hoping to not be seen. Everyone was talking to each other and (y/n) found a nice corner with no one that close and a good view of stairs and a door above them swirling with gold lines.

This was definitely a new experience for (y/n). This life was so full of... Well, life. And they couldn't stop staring at the other doors with people painted on them. Casita was beautiful. An old lady made her way down half of the steps they faced. It was abuela. Well, the families abuela.
"Fifty years ago, in our darkest moment, this candle blessed is with a miracle. And the greatest honor of our family has been to use our blessings to serve this beloved community."
