Kayla POV
Three days after Tiger and the other ladies came in, my apartment hunting endeavor came up empty as the weekend quickly approached. The offer from Tiger seems too good to be true, but I am running out of time and option. Maybe living with Tiger and Killer wouldn't be bad after all, but I didn't have a way to get a hold of her.
I thought about asking Lily if she had her number, but asking for help has always been my downfall. I am an independent person who doesn't want to rely on others. However, as Lily's shift ended, I needed to ask before the opportunity passed.
Lily divvied the tips between us, giving me way more than what I earned, and gathered up her things. "Thanks for today, Kayla. If you need anything, just call and I'll be right over!" she exclaimed.
I hesitated. "Actually, there is something you could help me with,"
"Sure! What do you need?"
"Do you have Tiger's phone number? It looks like I might need that extra room her brother has after all," I said honestly, praying this will all work out in the end.
"Yeah! I'm glad you're taking her up on the offer. Tiger is awesome and her brother, Killer, is a great guy," Lily said, rummaging through her purse for a piece of paper and her phone.
Who names their kid Killer?! Tiger's name should have been your first clue, Kayla...now what? Do I call her and risk my life or live in my car until I figure something out?
No, I promised myself a fresh start. So, if I have to live in a stranger's house for a week or two, then so be it...but after a conversation, at a coffee shop or something. Yeah, that sounds smart.
Lily laughed at the look on my face and handed me the phone number. "They're part of the Phoenix Riders, the motorcycle club here in town. Don't worry, I wouldn't let you go if he was an actual killer, but I promise you're in safe hands. Have a good night Kayla!" Lily waved as she left.
It was my first night working a later shift, which means I won't get off until midnight., but I still needed to Call Tiger. I didn't want to call her at midnight and accidentally wake her up, and find out how she earned her name. So on my break I called.
One, two, three rings...maybe she was asleep? I should hang up and - "Hello?"
It's your turn to speak now!
"Uh hi, it's Kayla...from the diner?"
"Oh hi! I meant to stop by the diner again, but things got crazy around here. I wasn't sure you'd call," she revealed. Several male voices in the background faded as she moved away from them.
How many brothers does she have? I'd give anything for one...focus. Ask her about the room.
"That's okay! Is now a good time to talk or..."
"No, no! Ignore the noise. The guys are always LOUD when I'M ON THE PHONE!" Tiger shouted towards the voices, which instantly quieted down. Damn you go, girl.
"Anyway, have you thought about the offer? I talked to my brother, and he's okay with it too. The room is yours! I know we just met, and it seems odd, but I promise we're not serial killers or anything...although that's what serial killers would say...I'm going to shut up now." Tiger realized how she sounded and instantly stopped rambling.
I couldn't help but laugh as she sounded just as nervous as me. "I mean serial killers are interesting, so if you guys are, I have a few questions I'd like to ask before I go," I commented, and Tiger let out a full belly laugh.
Someone understood my dark humor.
After she caught her breath, she said, "Fair enough. Did you want to meet for coffee or just come on over? Totally up to you!"
