Truthful Secrets

The sound of an electric shock echoed throughout the test chamber. "Try again," spoke a voice from the speaker in the ceiling.

Pin laid on the hard floor, heaving along with each breath that escaped from her mouth. The pain within her skin and bones made her feel as if she was being submerged in boiling water. Her arms raged with pain from the prior electric shock as she slowly tried to lift herself up off of the ground. She picked up a small wooden piece. It was barely the size of a pebble. Even with its small size, she still struggled to hold it due to the twitching of her fingers.

She was tasked to place this wooden piece into a small slot. Every time she would fail an attempt, the electric shock that came as punishment would grow in voltage. She has already taken several attempts so far, each attempt becoming more difficult as the pain and numbness within her limbs only grew stronger.

After one last attempt, Pin finally succeeded. As the piece slid into the slot, the lights in the room quickly became green as a "ding" echoed from the speaker, announcing her success. The sound quickly faded, then came a click and the sounds of someone writing on a hard surface.

"You're finished, you may visit Dr. X to check how you are doing physically. After that, please return to the main room."

The speaker clicked once again, then it shut off. Pin continued to breathe sharply as she stumbled out of the room, holding her left arm. It felt as if dozens of needles were stabbing it from the inside.

X unlocked the shock collars and removed them from Pin's wrists, replacing them with the usual control bracelets which all subjects wore. They wrote onto the paper on their clipboard for a while before looking back at Pin who still seemed like she was having trouble breathing and moving. "Oh you poor thing," X said gently as they patted her head, "I'll take you to your tube so you can recover from that experiment... it seems to have damaged your nervous system and might have caused you brain damage."

To Pin, X's voice sounded as if it were fading away. Pin tried to focus on their voice, but everything around her faded out into static.

"Pin!"

Pin shook her head quickly. She was holding a nutrition bar that was crumbling between her fingers due to how much force she was gripping it with. She blinked repeatedly, trying to focus on her surroundings. She saw Coiny sitting right next to her, on the floor, holding his own nutrition bar with both his hands. He seemed to be talking to her with a worried look on his face, but she couldn't understand a single word that he was saying. Looking down at the crumbs that fell from her nutrition bar, she could see her own reflection from the shining floor. She seemed pale and her fur seemed untreated.

"You haven't been yourself since you came back from the experiment... are you alright..?"

Pin heard Coiny speak as she turned towards him. She gave him a warm smile, loosening her grip on the bar. It completely fell apart after the pressure on it was released. "Oh, oops," Pin giggled nervously as she dusted off the crumbs that were left on the paw pads of her hands, "I'm fine Coiny, no need to worry about me! I'm just still healing from the previous experiment."
