"We all have a role in life."

The subject let out a harsh cough as they tried to adjust their body to look towards the other end of the chamber. Another subject sat there with their eyes wide open, holding a completely blank expression. They never seemed to blink, breathe, or even twitch. However, they seemed to release a hum that echoed within the dark, empty chamber. This subject, on the other hand, was struggling to keep calm. Their eyes darted around the room as they began hyperventilating.

Suddenly, the sound of a loud creak bounced around the walls of the chamber as gears and metal wires started to slowly move something down from an opening in the ceiling. The gears would make a sudden stop at times, causing an eardrum shattering screech as the crust from rusting made it get stuck in place. The troubled subject let out a raspy scream as they covered one side of their head, due to only having one arm.

Their head throbbed as the sound finished echoing throughout the hollow chamber. They tried to move as far away as possible from the other subject, who only continued to hum and stare at them with an emotionless expression.

They were only met with a cold metal door as they scraped at the ground with their feet while trying to move away. They cringed at the texture that their feet were met with - dried blood, but it felt like it wasn't completely dry.

Then the creaking began again.

A rusty metal wire held onto an empty clear container that lowered down to the husk-like subject.

The wire drew out a loud snap as the container began to fall. Though it landed on the subject it was above, it let out a loud thud that irritated the other subject even more. They held onto their skin as if they were going to lose it any second now, repeatedly whimpering to themselves. "Let.. me... out..", their voice felt broken as they spoke this, letting out raspy gasps between their sore words.

The humming came to a halt as the blank-faced subject was now trapped in a container. Nevertheless, the subject's expression never altered, it simply watched.

A piercing click from a speaker startled the other subject, causing them to groan as they continued to hold a tight grip on the side of their head.

"Your procedure is complete, but before you go please be informed that you have an experiment with L-1. You'll receive a document from me before I leave for night hour," the voice from the speaker explained, though it was a saddened tone.

The door behind the subject began to open as the speaker let out one last click before it fell silent. The subject scrambled to their feet and ran out of the chamber. The door slowly shut behind them as they looked back at the inside of the chamber. The blank one still stared at them, maybe waiting for the next visit.
