The minute we could leave and get some fresh air we did and ran outside to talk alone where no one could hear us.
"When did you find out?" He asked in disbelief.
"I have been feeling sick," I admitted, "it hasn't been too bad but then I went to Dr. Klein the other day here in London."
"That's where you went that day," he said looking down at his feet for a moment, "you should have told me right then."
"I'm sorry," I said genuinely, "I just didn't want to get both of our hopes up in case I wasn't and then I thought that telling you here would make it a memory for a lifetime."
"I just want you to be safe," he said, "now I'm really going to be protective of you, ya know."
"I do know," I nodded at him, "there's going to be a whole lot of people protecting me."
We sat outside in the backyard of the studio for almost an hour unbothered before Paul came and found us.
"There you guys are, we all thought you left to go burn off all your energy, you were more alive than ever in there earlier," he patted George on the back and sat beside him, "never seen you this happy, mate."
The three of us just sat there in a row on a brick ledge. The sun was beginning to set and there was an eerie quiet surrounding us.
Finally, after careful thought on the right moment George spoke, "we have some news to share."
He looked at me for a quick second and I nodded at him as I held his arm.
"Lauren is pregnant," George said to the man that was once his best and closest friend. They have definitely grown further apart with George being more grounded to the earth and Paul being super business oriented but deep down they had a bond that was never broken.
Paul's eyes grew wide with excitement for us and he stood up.
"This all makes sense now," he stood in front of us and spoke, "did you find out in that moment after that speech to the press?"
"I did tell him right then," I nodded and George swung his arm around me and pulled me close.
"That's wonderful isn't it," he looked up at the sky. I imagined he was feeling lonely but I could tell he was happy for us.
"George could I talk to Paul alone for a minute?" I asked him and Paul just stood there without a word.
"What for?" George asked me and I told him I would tell him later.
"Alright then, I will go inside but don't be too long. We should share the news with the others," he kissed the top of my head and shook hands with Paul.
George wasn't a jealous man by any means and especially not with the other guys in his band. But I knew he just was wondering what I needed to talk to Paul alone about. The truth was that Paul opens up to me while he puts up a guard with everyone else and I could tell he had things on his mind.
He might walk into a room of people and make jokes or be sarcastic but you look at him and you see the pressure of the world on his shoulders.
"You trying to make your husband upset with me?" Paul sat down a few feet away from me back on the brick ledge.
"He will get over it," I rolled my eyes, "how are you Mr. Paul McCartney?"
"Lauren Woods!" he exclaimed, "Well the day is finally here, all the hard work and dedication to our music... and I feel very happy."
"I couldn't be more proud. You've been working on this Album since the day I met you."
"And as I've announced to the world; we couldn't have done any of this without you. I did have the idea but it wouldn't have came out like this," he shook his head.
"I am grateful that I met all of you," I said, "I guess I am just feeling a bit sentimental."
He nodded, "you tell that babe that he better have George's musical talent but your heart."
He pointed to his chest and I smiled, "oh but what if it's a little girl, can she have my fashion sense?" I asked.
"Haven't you heard girls are rock stars these days?" He pretended to be serious, "We will give her a fender then and have her join the band."
"No," I smiled, "I do think it will be a boy, I can picture George teaching him everything he knows about life."
"So a meditating baby that plays guitar," Paul nodded.
He knew how to make me smile, I loved how he was able to have these conversations with me and things were never uncomfortable.
"What did you want to talk about," he then grew serious.
"I just miss talking to you, you've always been good to us and I just wanted to let you know that I'm always here."
"I appreciate that, Lauren, truly," he said, "but I'm alright, and I'm very very proud of George for wedding you and creating a lovely family."
I stood up, "as long as you're okay then I'm excited to go in and share the news."
I walked back inside and George was now jamming on his rhythm guitar with his friend Eric who came to the party. Ringo was playing the drums and John was leaning against the wall with Cynthia. I saw Maureen then pouring some tea and Brian and some other managers and producers were standing around chatting.
"Where did everyone go?" I asked Paul. The room looked so empty.
"You guys were outside for a while, it's just us all here now."
George stopped playing and stood to join me and Paul.
"Ready babe?" He asked me and I nodded.
Paul stepped back and grabbed some tea from Maureen.
"Lauren and I have some news to share," George announced and suddenly all eyes were on us both in the center of the room.
His arm was around me and he was smiling brighter than ever. I looked up at him and his mustache was so attractive to me that I just wanted to jump into his arms and begin kissing his face.
I snapped back to reality and George put his arms around me from behind.
"Are you moving to America?" John asked from his spot against the wall.
"Not if he wants his job, he's not," Brian then said in a serious tone.
"No, you guys won't be getting rid of me that easily," I shook my head.
"Well what is it then?" Cynthia asked excitedly.
George smiled down at me again and then he nodded for me to tell them all.
"Everyone here is family to us," I spoke gently, "but George and I are excited to announce that we are starting our own family.... I'm pregnant."
Congratulations went around and for the rest of the evening we all sat around telling stories and then the men all had a jam session as us ladies danced around.
It was well into the early morning hours when we finally returned home. I had fallen asleep as he drove and once we arrived, George delicately carried me into the house and up to our bedroom. He laid me down onto the bed and began to play with my hair as I tiredly looked at him.
"Today was...." he started to say and then paused.
"Amazing, wonderful, successful, perfect..." I trailed off.
"You make me a better man each and every day, Lolo," I heard him whisper as I fell into a deep, happy sleep.
In my dream George and I were in a big garden. It had every flower you could imagine and went on for miles. As we walked slowly down the etched out paths, he was strumming his guitar and serenading me with his music. From what I could feel from the dream, it felt like it was in America.
My subconscious was always bringing me back home.
I woke up briefly after the dream had ended and spoke.
"George?" I called out in a whisper to the man laying beside me.
"Yes, what is it?" He slowly turned to face me.
"Take me home," I said on the verge of tears.
