" where's the alcohol?! " aki hollered the moment she walked through your front door.
" in the fridge! help yourself, " mom replied as she carried a steaming bowl of curry towards the dining table. " be responsible! " she shouted as a precaution.
" yes ma'am! " aki replied back as she made eye contact with you, who was busy setting the table up, " YOU! "

" come here you sexy beast! " aki cheered as she opened her arms, making her way towards you.
the smile on your face was hard to dismiss as you made your way towards her as well, enveloping her in the biggest bear hug.
" can you believe it? " aki asked, still hugging you tightly.

" oh man... can't help it i guess... " aki shrugged as she slung a hand around your shoulders as you both watched the chaos unfold in front of you. little children were running everywhere, your mom was busy in the kitchen while the other adults were chatting away on the couch. " but guess what. "

" 15 minutes to countdown! " a drunk aki announced to the room.
under normal circumstances, she would've been the centre of attention but today, she was just as loud as the rest of the guests. children were playing tag all around the house while the adults were laughing loudly. even mom was having a great time.
on the other hand though, you were worried that takahashi wouldn't be back on time. not that it was a big deal... since you spent almost every new year with him... but this year, it was different.
" don't worry, " aki slurred, as if she was reading your mind. " he will make it. "
