*New years eve and everyone is at a party at Chris's house*

Todd is overwhelmed to say the least. Charlie dragged him over to this stupid party that he never in a million years would ever want to go to if it wasn't for one thing.

Neil

However that one thing that convinced him to go is no where to be found. Granted he hasn't looked very far past the wall that he is leaning up against. Staring at his cup of lemonade mixed with a bit of something that isn't quite right, Todd is beginning to regret his choice to come.

I could be reading in bed right now and counting down the new year by looking at my own clock. I know it's depressing but I would much rather do that than sit here in the corner of this party where I obviously don't belong. I don't know who anyone is. That's not true there's Neil. But then again I haven't seen him at all . I'm not upset I just wish he would check in. Why am I even here. I'm here because I wanted to seek out the 1% chance that Neil might want to kiss me. I should just go, there's no point.

Todd looks up to see Neil staring at him.

"You ok?" Neil asks genuinely.

"Yeah just a lot of people"

"Ok I can fix that" Neil smiles

"Oh seriously it's fine, don't worry"

"No let's go somewhere a little more quiet" Neil takes Todd's hand sending little waves through Todd causing him to blush. Yet he still remained on the wall "Todd come on the wall can hold itself up just fine" And with that Neil is guiding him outside and to the balcony.

Todd breathes in the fresh air, it's refreshing to consume air that does not have smoke and alcohol in it. It's so much more peaceful out on the balcony. Yes there are a few people out but they are looking for the same thing as Neil and Todd.

"Ok, 10 minutes until the new year. Favorite things of 1959 go!" Neil fires at Todd

"The pressure, agh. I guess meeting you guys. Actually being apart of something" Todd feels safe around Neil like he can say anything and not be judged. Well maybe not anything.

"Yeah I get that"

Todd takes another swig of his nasty lemonade "This is vile, why do I keep drinking this. I asked Charlie to get me a lemonade and he gave me this alcoholic monstrosity"

"That's Charlie for you, here this is actual lemonade, pro tip never let anyone especially Charlie get you a drink." Neil swaps his and Todds cup, tossing Todd's off to the side.

"Thank you, so much better. Can I be honest with you"

"Always"

"If it wasn't for you coming to check on me I was going to leave. I was thinking there is no point for me to be here, but I'm so glad you saved me"

"Todd, you don't give yourself enough credit. Everyone thinks you're great. You wouldn't have been invited to the dead poets otherwise" The boys sit in comfortable silence, looking over the edge of the balcony.

"Guys the countdown is about to start, come in" Meeks yells popping his head out from the party.

"Just a minute" Neil yells back "I guess we should go back"

"Yeah" Todd sighs but remains still along with  Neil.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1" Cheers can be heard from inside.

They boys look into eachothers eyes and stay there in uncertainty. "Neil?" Todd whispered barely audible.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR 1960 BABY!!" Charlie yells running towards him and Neil along with the other dead poets. All of them embraced separating Neil and Todd from eachother.

Todd finds Neil just for a second "I should go"

"Todd please stay" Neil tried to plead but his friend was already inside.

Why do I have to be like this. What was I going to do if he heard me "Hey Neil can I kiss you"  God I'm stupid.  Why just why. I just need to except the fact that Neil is straight and would never kiss a guy let alone me.

Todd fell back onto his bed covering his face with a pillow. It's been 30 minutes into the new year and all ready it's horrible.

"Todd, you here?"

"Neil?" Neil walked into the room with a worried expression on his face.

"Why did you run off like that?"

"I'm sorry I just got anxious" Todd said removing the pillow from his face and walking towards Neil.

"You don't need to apologize for that. You just were gonna ask me something before we got separated and I got worried"

"Oh its nothing. I forgot. You know me" Todd laughed awkwardly.

"You sure? Because I do know you and I know that you haven't forgotten." Neil said approaching Todd a little more.

"I just want to redo this night. It's been what 45 minutes into the new year and I already feel like this year sucks"

"Fine 5,4,3-"

"What are you doing?"

"Redoing the year right, now be quiet. 5,4,3,2,1" Neil leaned in catching Todd by surprise but it was a welcome surprise that Todd reciprocated. Maybe this year isn't as horrible as Todd thought.
