Me and Daddy were having breakfast on a Monday morning in the hotel dining room. He was sipping his coffee, he didn't order any breakfast, I ordered Eggs Benedict Arnold.

"Daddy?"

"Yeah Buttercup?"

"How come you didn't order breakfast?"

"There's coffee and donuts at work, I'll be fine, you eat your breakfast."

He sipped his coffee and I took a bite.

"If Egg McMuffins had some cold and filthy money, this would be it."

He chuckled.

"The combination eggs and English muffins in general," he said.

"Eggs in general Daddy, perfection!"

"You know that eggs are very good for your brain?" He asked giving his head a light tap.

"No I didn't."

"Well now you know."

"Now I wanna order more eggs so I can be really smart!"

"It doesn't work that way Cori, eat the eggs you have and you'll get every question right at school today."

"Really?"

"Yep."

He looked at his watch.

"We better hurry so we can take you to school. I will be talking with either Audrey or Shelly into babysit you on some evenings, I'll be working very late, as in you'll be sleeping by the time I get home."

"I'll stay up until you come home."

He shook his head sternly.

"Nah uh, you're nine going on ten, you need your sleep, we'll see each other in the morning, trust me."

"Do you like Audrey or Shelly better?"

"They're both nice girls and they've been good to you since we got here."

"Audrey seems like the stuck up type of girl, Shelly doesn't seem that way."

"You don't know Audrey enough to know for sure she is, well I guess you like Shelly better."

"They can take turns babysitting Daddy, I like them both."

He shrugged.

"We'll look into it, we can try to come up with an answer tomorrow, my first late work day is tomorrow, I'm gonna get through two pots of coffee, maybe three."

He took me to school.

Five minutes into homeroom, my classmate Toby walked in with a late slip.

"You're late Toby, second day in a row," Mrs. Collins said.

"Sorry, I can't find my bike."

"You have other ways, school bus, parent drop off/pick up."

"Um...my bike?"

"Toby, find a better way to get to school on time, take a seat!"

Toby sat in his seat. After another ten minutes of Mrs. Collins yapping about announcements that have nothing to do with nonathletic kids like me, she let us talk while waiting for first bell to ring. Toby sat next to Zach, I overheard their conversation.

"Hey Zach," Toby said.

"What's up Tobster."

"Late and tired."

"Where did you lose your bike?"

"A couple days ago, my bike was in my regular spot in the yard, the next morning, it was gone, like it disappeared to start a new life or something."

"Kinda like my mom, you know, Dad's still bummed about it."

"Sorry dude."

"Me and my new friend Cori will help you look for your bike."

"Really, you'll help me?"

I butted in.

"Of course we will, I'll get Duncan, Tasha, and Jessie to help too."

"You guys are really gonna help me?" Toby asked.

I nodded and smiled.

"Yeah."

"But what if we don't find it?"

"We're not gonna give up, right Cori?" Zach asked.

"No sirree bub."

My other friends were more than happy to help out.
