In the shadows, Beidou was holding hands with a shoeless Ningguang as they hurried over to a fisherman's boat close by the docks of the southern wharf, since that's where the lanterns were released. From jumping from each building's shadow to another, they kept themselves distanced from the attendees and paid close attention to the bystanders of the Rite. They constantly kept avoiding places where they could hear anyone's voice.
Jumping down from a dock down to a boat four feet was not easy at first for Ningguang; she never knew she had to do so much exercise just from running everywhere from Yujing Terrace down to the southern wharf. With some reassuring words and confidence from Beidou though, the Lady Tianquan was able to carry on with the vigorous activities.
As they both jumped down to the deck, Ningguang began sitting down on the middle of the seat in the deck, while Beidou quickly got ahold of the two oars that were connected side by side on the boat. With ease, she was able to quickly lift the oars and was able to guide the boat through the waters swiftly as possible.
The lanterns were still hanging above in the night air. The second wave of lanterns were going to be released soon after the first wave, and then after it would be those Naganohora fireworks that Beidou helped ship from Inazuma. Ningguang, mesmerized by the lights above in the sky, lifted one of her hands up into the sky and traced some of the lanterns with the tips of her bare fingers. The lanterns were not that far away from the ground, but they were far enough to still appear like actual lanterns floating up in the air. Some of the lanterns had fallen to the sea, but they were still emitting that same, golden glow from it.
Beidou carefully guided the boat to a place quite far from the dock, but not far enough for Ningguang to not be able to see the last wave of lanterns being released from the large crowd of people. The boat was facing towards the southern wharf.
"Thank you, Beidou," Ningguang said, reaching out to Beidou's hand. As Beidou looked at her and onto her hand, she took Ningguang's hand and was suddenly pulled to her side. The narrowed inside of the boat had pushed them both to be up against each other, and they were both easily able to feel each other's warmth from each other. Though, Beidou was wearing a white long sleeved blouse and her red blazer, so it was unnoticeable at first for Ningguang to feel her touch.
"Are you enjoying it so far?" Beidou asked, looking at Ningguang and slowly wrapping her arm around her waist.
Ningguang nodded her head and smiled at Beidou. She then closed her eyes and rested her head on the captain's shoulder, not minding the sound of the lapping waves against the hull of the boat.
After what seemed like forever, Beidou then exclaimed. "Hey, the lanterns are being released!"
Ningguang's eyes slowly opened, and they suddenly widened as she saw the immense glows from the last lanterns being released into the air. Her eyes lit up in wholesomeness, and Beidou noticed it as she looked at her. She smiled at her, watching Ningguang become almost hypnotized by the view and the sight. The dark night with the moon above greeting the lanterns and the view from the fisherman's boat was enough to make Ningguang feel special.
Though, it wasn't just this sight that made the woman feel special. As she looked back at Beidou, Beidou quickly turned away in embarrassment, and she could even hear Beidou's restless chuckle. The captain raised her hand and she began to fiddle with one of her hair strands, pushing one of them back behind her ear. Ningguang's eyes lightened up with humor watching her.
"Great seafarer Captain Beidou, are you alright?" Ningguang teased, bringing a hand up to her mouth to cover herself chuckling at the captain.
"Absolutely nothing," Beidou said. She felt blood rushing to her cheeks as she felt the presence of Ningguang's watchful eyes on her. "You can look at the lanterns instead, y'know."
"Hmmm. You're correct on that," Ningguang said, raising her eyebrows and nodding her head slowly. She then leaned her head again into Beidou's space. "I want you to turn around, if you don't mind."
"Now why would I mind-"
As Beidou turned herself to the side to face Ningguang, she felt both of Ningguang's hands grab the area of her head behind her ear. With her eye wide open, she saw as Ningguang leaned forward slowly and look back into her, then slightly open her mouth as she softly kissed the captain's lips. When she did, Ningguang could somehow still see the glow of the lanterns around them, even though her eyes were clearly shut closed and reserved. Beidou, unknowing of what to do, kept her eye opened and felt her entire body becoming more fast paced for some reason. There was a feeling of rolling developing in her stomach and chest area, and she felt her hands becoming quaking on the seat.
When Ningguang retracted, Beidou watched as she smoothly went back to her old self, sitting fine and dandy in the seat of the boat with both of her hands resting somehow elegantly in her lap with her legs crossed. In astonishment of her actions, Beidou couldn't help but to breathe deeply to herself and try and calm down.
"Beidou?" Ningguang asked in worry, wondering why the captain is acting the way that she is right now in the moment.
"Y...you kissed me, y'know?" Beidou stuttered. "What am I-"
"Darling, just...relax and feel yourself immersed in it, okay?" Ningguang said, shaking her head. "I've never thought of you to be the complicated type when it comes to this."
She then leaned forward towards Beidou again and grabbed the same areas on the head again. With a small chuckle from looking at the captain right before, Ningguang slowly kisses her and closes her eyes softly once more. She then turns her body to face her completely, with her legs at each side of the seat in the boat.
Beidou felt her cheeks becoming so flushed during her kiss, but she tried taking Ningguang's advice. She leaned forward towards Ningguang and closed her eye, trying to 'immerse herself in it', just like what the Tianquan had said. Beidou began to grab Ningguang's waist out of instinct and tighten her fingers around the curves of her waist. She then traced her hands down to Ningguang's outer thighs, which Ningguang noticed and chuckled in between kissing her. As Beidou, however, slid her hands and placed both of her thumbs on the inner part of Ningguang's thighs, Ningguang retracted back from kissing Beidou and she began smiling in ecstasy. Her face was covered in a rosy-pink color, and she took a deep sigh.
"Was I still being complicated?" Beidou asked. Though, she felt that she was only teasing the Tianquan in that moment when asking her.
"I suggest holding hands with each other and watching the fireworks tonight unless you want to sleep in my quarters," Ningguang replied quickly, rolling her eyes. She still is unable to get over the replay in her head of the captain caressing her.
"Whatever's fine with me," she answered, grabbing ahold of Ningguang's hand and interlocking her fingers with hers. "I'm just really happy being here with you."
As the night progressed, the two ended up resting their heads against each other with their hair touching each other's. With the lanterns finally reaching upwards and becoming what seemed like golden dots in the sky, the Naganohara fireworks began to light up. As they skyrocketed up into the sky, a swarm of them exploded like dynamite in the night. Colors of orange and yellow exploded, and the cheers of the people on the southern wharf were able to be heard from miles away. Different colors had begun exploding one after another, and their light was shown on both Beidou and Ningguang's face.
As the last exploding firework was done, both the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing and the Captain of the Crux Fleet were both sleeping on each other, their hands interlocked with each other's fingers.
