As I was waiting for the noodles to boil in the cup, I dialed my mom and put my phone up to my ear. "Hey mom." I said.
"Hi Y/N, what's going on honey?" She asked on the other end.
I shrugged, knowing she couldn't see it. "Same old same old. Adjusting to city life is still a struggle, not gonna lie." I admitted, stirring my noodles.
She sighed. "Yeah, but you'll get through it. How was work?" She asked.
"Works okay. Today a customer came in with a cat." I said softly. She started laughing. "Wow, people can be so funny." She said. I grinned. "Yeah! Anyways. I just called to see how you were doing. My noodles are ready and I don't think you wanna hear my smacking." I teased, stirring my noodles.
I could practically hear her eyes roll from behind the screen. "Yeah yeah, get out of here. Bye honey." She said. "Bye mom." I answered.

I hung up and played a YouTube video, watching it and eating my noodles. I moved out from my mom's house around half a year ago, and I'm living in a one person apartment in the city so I can be closer to the college I'm attending. The apartment is small, but cozy. And it's on the 3rd floor so I have a decent view of the city, I suppose.
I call my mom every now and then to check up on her since I have no siblings or dad. She tends to get lonely. It was just me and her growing up. And Natalies family as well, of course.
Natalie moved into her own apartment. We did plan to live together originally, but it somehow just didn't work out. But it's okay since her apartment is just a one minute walk away.

I mindlessly listened to my YouTube video. My thoughts started wandering from Natalie, to school, to work, and to him. When i thought of him, I froze for a second and felt that funny feeling again.
I dont even like him but that feeling always comes around to haunt me whenever I think of him. It irritates me.
I thought of the way he looks at me everytime I smile at him. The way he doesn't say thank you but somehow, it doesn't bother me. It feels almost, natural, for him to not say thank you... Is that normal?
I felt my legs softly and slowly shift for a second.
Wait. No. Stop thinking of him, that's weird. He's your regular.

Just as my thoughts were wandering on about him, I got a text message and I thanked the universe for stopping my lingering mind. I opened the text. It was from Noah. I smiled. Noah is my friend from college. He's pretty cute. He has cute light brown hair, and blueish grey eyes. He's extremely sweet and caring, but also very childish and annoying. In a good way!

Noah:

Y/N:

I closed my phone and placed my empty cup of noodles on my bedstand. I looked up at the ceiling. Noah's silly. Sometimes I wonder if he'd like to be with me.
Would I even like to be with him? I'm not sure. He can't hold a promise to his name, in my experience. So I'm skeptical.
I looked down at my pajamas and picked at some lint.
I'm not sure what type of guy I want. Or what kind of relationship I want. Typical sweet and romantic relationships turn me off for some odd reason. I'm not the type to attract toxic relationships or anything, It's just that I'm not sure...

Just don't fall in love, Y/N.

"Medium, black." He said, already getting his card out. I looked at him. "Will that be all for you today, sir?" I asked him while grabbing his card. He glanced up at me. "Yes." He muttered. I squinted. "Alright." And I turned to make his coffee. As I poured the freshly brewed coffee into his cup, I bit my lip. Then decided.
I turned around and gave him his coffee. "Here you are, sir." I said. He grabbed the cup. "May I ask, what's your name?" I asked, blunt yet trying to be nice about it. He looked up from his cup, and I felt my heart race.
He gave the most subtle tilt of his head. "Who's asking?" He asked, almost in a teasing way, yet his voice was as still as untouched water. "Um." I mumbled. I felt my body softly shiver as I caught him eying me up and down. "Your barista." I answered with a smile to tease him back. He stared at me. "I prefer being called sir." He softly said. His voice, eyes and expression was as serious as ever.
With a swallow, "Well, sir. I like to get to know my regulars!" I explained.
"Then you know enough about me." He said. I tilted my head and was about to question him, until he raised his coffee slightly to show me his cup. I suddenly understood and glared at him. But he was already turning away to sit at his chair.

This asshole is really challenging me right now. He knows I'm trying to see through him, but he won't let me get past that wall.

Okay.
Challenge fucking accepted.
