Later that day, I was in my room laying flat on my back on the couch, thinking about the Avengers back at home and wondering where most of them could be or if they were even okay. After spending time with Ego and getting to know him a little, I still had this uneasy feeling about him and this place. The song Under Pressure by Queen was playing softly in the background on my dark blue mini iPod as I threw a blue energy ball up and down.
There was a soft knock at the door and I turn my head to see Peter. He walks over to the couch and sits on a round cushioned seat in front of me. "You okay?" He asks.
I continue to throw the ball up and down. "Yeah. I'm just worried about my friends back at home."
"The Avengers?" Peter asks.
I nod my head in reply.
"What happened between you guys?"
I stop throwing the ball. It disappears in my hands when I sit up to look at Peter. "There was this government contract we had to sign called the Sokovia Accords. It would ensure that the government had full control of what we did when we go on missions. Some of us didn't agree and it caused us to argue with one another."
"What did you do?" Peter asks.
"At first I didn't want anything to do with it. I didn't want to be caught in the middle of things. I just wanted everyone to get along. Eventually, I had to tell them that I didn't want to sign it and that's when everyone went their separate ways." I say.
"That must've been hard." Peter says.
"It was. It's been almost a year now and I don't know where any of them are or if they're even okay." I say. I felt tears forming in my eyes.
"Hey, I'm sure they're okay. Have you tried calling them?" Peter says.
"Not really. We've pretty much lost any form of contact so the government couldn't track us." I say. "But it's not just them I'm worried about, it's Ego. Something doesn't feel right and I'm not sure what it is."
"I know. I feel it too." Peter says.
"You know that feeling when you've wanted something your entire life and when you finally have it, it's just too good to be true?" I say.
"Yeah." Peter says.
"That's what I'm feeling right now. I mean this place. It just doesn't feel real. That Mantis girl, she's hiding something. I can tell just by looking at her." I say. "I'm scared, Peter. I'm afraid that all of this is going to be taken away from me and then...then I'll be alone again. No Avengers, no family, nothing."
"You won't be alone. You'll have me." Peter says. I looked at Peter as tears streamed down my cheeks. Peter looks over at my iPod and scrolls through the songs on my list. He picks one and the song Three Little Birds by Bob Marley starts playing. He turns up the volume a little, placing the iPod back on the table. He gets up and starts dancing along to the song. He pulls funny faces as he does so trying to make me laugh.
