Shanzay’s POV

It was 8:30 in the night when I came out of my room. 7 hours had been passed since Uncle and Aunt left. I know I crossed the line speaking in front of elders but I couldn’t stand it any longer. Someone had to do that, tell them that they are done pressurizing us.

I went to Mama’s room. I knew she would be there, well of course crossed with me. I opened the door and went inside. She was sitting in her arm chair reading some book.

Her room was simple and organized. Her furniture was of dark timber wood, beige curtains drawn on the window and the walls were painted off-white. Lamps were placed at the side-tables.

“Mama?” I called her lightly.

“Not now Shanzay, I am not in the mood.” She said sternly without looking at me.

“Mama please just listen to me once, pleaseee….pretty pleaseee.” I pleaded her making pouty face.

“Ok fine what do you want?” She asked looking upwards peaking from her reading glasses.

“I am sorry I hurt you, but I don’t regret saying a word to them they deserved it.” I spoke carelessly almost muttered the last part.

“Shanzay!” She said wide eyed.

“Ok ok sorry, Mama I really am sorry but I can’t tolerate their behavior, them disrespecting you.” I said quietly.

“And what about the disrespect you showed them? What would they be thinking? That’s what I have taught you? Shanzay I didn’t raise you to be disrespectful.” She scolded me.

“I know mama you didn’t and I won’t have disrespected them if they hadn’t have said those things to you. They brought it upon themselves.”

“Shanzay you know it’s pointless to argue with you, you are just so stubborn.”

“Well that I am” I said sheepishly.

“But mama I am also strong headed and honest and I will always protect my family and speak for them. I won’t tolerate anyone who tries to mess with my family.” I added hugging her.

She hugged me back and said: “Shanzay I know but you need to be careful too and never disrespect your elders no matter what.”

“Alright fine.” I mumbled.

“Well if you guys are done with this whole mushy stuff, can we have dinner? Because I am starving” Moosa said while standing at the door.

“Alright we are coming, jealous much.” I said breaking the hug.

Azlaan’s POV

After I reached home I didn’t talk much and went to my room. I felt a bit better letting it all out to Hamad. I decided to sleep early so I can wake up fresh tomorrow. But Sleep is never a friend of yours when you need it and here I was lying on the bed eyes wide open staring at the ceiling. I could memorize every pattern of the designs the ceiling had. The particles of dust that coated the fan, well I guess it’s time to clean the fans. It was already cold in Islamabad. Just a matter of days when the frost will be here.

I liked winters no offense but there was just something about it which always made me sad. It is honestly a bit gloomy in winters. I really miss the sun and the life in winters. I tried to divert my mind by thinking different things. I always try to find my way back to positivity. It’s not easy, but by being optimistic really helps me see things clearly.
