My cheeks reddened at his sudden confession. I just watched him as he stared back at me. My brain was still processing what he said.
"Pft," Jake burst out laughing, "You should've seen your face. It. Was. Priceless."
He was now rolling over and laughing at the stupid prank that he pulled. I huffed in annoyance at both him and his so-called joke.
"But in all seriousness, I didn't lie. I do want you to be my partner. And I really do like you." Wait what? At this point, I was baffled. He can't just do or say that. Especially after acting like it was a prank. I could practically hear my heart beating in my ear and I could barely contain it. Luckily, the class bell had rung. So I had a chance to escape from him.
I hastily grabbed my things and said, "Well then, you should stop liking me."
"And why should I?" Jake asked as he watched me walk towards the door.
Before stepping out of the class, I turned back to Jake and said, "Because I don't like you."
I quickly walked out into the hall hoping that Jake wouldn't follow me. I was right. Jake didn't follow me. Instead, he yelled across the hall.
"WELL I LIKE YOU, SO DEAL WITH IT. AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, YOU'LL LIKE ME BACK TOO."
My cheeks instantly heated up when I heard him say that. I turned to see Jake standing in the midst of the crowd. I watched as he turned and headed to his class, obviously not forgetting to wink at me.
"What. Was. That." I turned to see Joy just standing there with confusion written all over her face. I let out a laugh before dragging her off to class.
