I headed up to my room and laid on my bed. The heavy "emotional baggage" that I had been carrying had now been lifted off of my shoulders. I turned over to my side table and grabbed my phone from there. I picked a playlist and decided that it was time to completely get over Joshua. I decided that from now on I'm going to think of Joshua as nothing more than a friend.
First things first, remorse over the past. Despite wanting to get rid of these feelings, you can't deny that you've made some pretty good memories with the guy. This is my first step because no matter how much I want to let go, there's a small sliver of me who wants to still hold on. So looking back over my memories with Joshua will not only satisfy that part of me, but it'll also help me acknowledge that these feelings for him will no longer be there. It also brings out the emotions that I've bottled up. Letting out these emotions means that I'll have an emotionally fresh start and outlook with both Joshua and my love life. Then, you'd want to completely stop fantasizing over the boy. You do this so you can end every possible thought that you can be with him. When all of that is done, burn your feelings for him. Whether it be literally or figuratively, do it. Trust me, you'll feel a lot better after doing this.
After this, the rest of the steps can be pushed together into something called a "boost in confidence". Other names for this are a "glow-up", a "boost in self-esteem", a "make-over", a "better version of you", "pamper yourself" and the list goes on. This step is pretty self-explanatory. Give yourself positive affirmations, treat yourself to a nice meal, do things that you enjoy or things that you've wanted to try. And if you're feeling a little bold, then go out and party. But remember, your safety is your number one priority. And no matter what you do, don't let anyone steal that spotlight from you.
