"uh, yeah. sometimes. it depends it has to be a strong feeling of that emotion. red is for anger i get it a lot when i get in a fight with owen or cody." i ran my fingers over the scales. "cody's eyes change too, it's just not that noticeable because he doesn't feel emotion the same."
there was a sound of someone tapping a mic that made the three of us look over. "hello, and welcome to the show of the mosasaurus or some have depicted to name the mo. the mosasaurus was thought to have hunted near the surface of the water."
"this was where it could prey on anything it could sink its teeth into. including turtles, large fish, even smaller mosasaurs," the lady announced. a large great white shark was being conveyed, hanging by its tail.
"okay folks, let's see if she's still hungry after already eating today. she's a little shy so be nice and give her a hand when she comes out." grey then repeatedly shoved zach to try and get his attention. he then turned to me and i started laughing with him. "i'm looking!"
zach then looked up from his phone, he seemed to be texting someone so i thought it was his mother. the dinosaur jumped up out of the water, clamping its jaw around the shark. a couple of people jumped back at its viciousness.
the mosasaurus started to head back down and flopped onto the water. i cringed as water splashed everyone in the seating area. we all laughed as grey shook mine and zach's shoulders. "oh, my god! that was awesome!"
the seats started to move down making a couple of people gasp in shock, making me laugh. the seats were lowered to the point where everyone could see mo under the water, through massive special glass walls.
everyone started to clap, zach's hand let go of mine to clap while grey started spitting facts about the dinosaur. "it had eighty-eight teeth!" grey shouted over the clapping. "it also has a bite force of up to sixteen thousand psi!" i added on. "hey! wanna see something else that's cool?!"
the monorail, my least favourite thing in the park. "worst fear? mine is clowns and a dinosaur chasing after me," zach asked, i was sat behind him and grey and next to this girl who was turned to her friends. "water, a deep body of water. i can't swim. oh and drops, like jumping off something."
i thought for a moment. "favourite colour? mines like a dark blue but not navy," i explained. "uh... green, but a very dull green," he answered. "wow, very specific, why?" he laughed before looking at me again.
"it's the colour of your eyes, dumbass," he pointed out. i laughed. "wow, very charming, you like this to everyone you flirt with?" he rolled his eyes while biting his lip, stop it. i looked at grey who looked rather sad while staring out the window.
he wasn't asking me questions, nor telling me dinosaur facts i already knew. he then turned around to his older brother. "if mom and dad get divorced, will one of us be with mom and the other with dad?" grey asked zach.
"what? why would you say that?" he said turning around to his brother. "cause they are," Grey said making me frown. "no, they're not getting... they're not getting divorced," the older brother tried to reassure. he went to turn back around to me but then grey started to shake his head to say no.
"look. you haven't been around long enough. they've always been that way," he added. "they get mail from two different lawyers," grey said, i wasn't purposefully trying to listen in but it made my heart shatter. i saw the realisation hit zach like a train but try to shut it down.
"that doesn't mean anything," i said, trying to help. i ruffled his hair but he didn't seem to react. "i googled. they're divorce lawyers," grey said to help his point. maybe i shouldn't have said anything. i put my hands around the boy and hugged him. he started to cry. "i'm so sorry."
"all right, whatever. you know what? it doesn't matter, okay? i'm gonna be gone in two years anyway. i mean, all my friends' parents are divorced," Zach added. "my birth parents are divorced," I said, making the situation a bit darker.
"hey, knock it off." grey was sobbing. "you're gonna cry? look. you're gonna get two of everything, right? you're gonna get two birthdays, two thanksgivings, two..." zach said starting to run out of things to say made me have to hold back a laugh.
"i don't want two of everything," the younger brother said. he pushed my arms off around him and o leaned back in the chair i was in. "yeah, well, it's not up to you. all right? there's a point you have to grow up," zach said.
grey then turned to look out the window. i looked at zach and then nodded towards his brother. "you were a bit harsh," i mouthed. he looked at his brother and i could see the regret in his eyes.
"did you know the soft tissue is preserved because the iron in the dinosaur's blood generates free radicals, and those are highly reactive? so, the proteins and the cell membranes get all mixed up, and uh... act as a natural preservative. DNA can survive for millennia that way. see, now, even if the amber mines dry up, they'll still have bones to-"
"-bring the dinosaurs back again," i finished. he smiled and continued to talk to me about it. i liked hearing people tell me everything they could about dinosaurs, in some cases i found out things i didn't even know.
