Author POV:

It was senior year and Mia was graduating in a few days. She had one more big thing that she had to do for school, and that was the halftime performance for the school's football game, which she had never done before. This was her first time performing in front of a live crowd, including her family and friends...and boyfriend, Greyson.

She was the cheerleading captain this season, so she had the lead in the dance.

She was up practicing all night, being the perfectionist that she is and was still up at 4 am on a Thursday morning.

Meredith stirs in her sleep and cuddles into Derek's embrace. She turns to check the time and hears a noise coming from their bedroom window.

"What in God's name?" She muttered.

She gets up and stares at Mia practicing her performance and she chuckles.

"Babe, come back to bed. you're warm and cozy." He groans and wraps his arms around her from behind.

"Honey, our daughter is dancing at 4 in the morning, could you get take her to bed please?" She asked

"Meredith." Derek groaned

"Baby, please?" Meredith pouted

"Our daughter is not human." He chuckled and kissed his wife before he went downstairs to the backyard.

"Best husband ever." She does the sparkly eye thing and he chuckles.

...

"Oi! Get to bed! You still have school in the morning!" He laughed

"Dad, you're distracting me! I can't screw this performance up, this is the last thing I do before I graduate. I don't need people remembering me as a klutz...that's what you and mom are for!" She said

"ok fine, ten minutes max and then go to sleep. you need to get some rest, babe." he kissed her head.

"i will, don't worry." she smiled and he headed back inside and upstairs to bed.

"so?" meredith asked

"she'll be inside in ten minutes. she'll eventually have the desire to go to sleep. relax, mer." derek snuggled into her chest and the two drifted off to sleep.

(five hours later)

all of the kids are getting ready for school and zola catches mia chugging a can of red bull in the pantry.
