When Verónica was finally satisfied that her outfit was both pretty and gay enough, It was time for Elian to head home so he could get dressed.

Glancing at his closet, Elian frowned. He didn't want to wear any of the suits or fancy shirts he had in his closet. Hmmm... they checked the dress/skirts area, and his eyes fell on a beautiful orange dress. It was their favorite, though they usually weren't in the mood when they were a boy. They decided to take a minute to think. Their gender was a fickle thing, but when it came down to it all that mattered was their pronouns and presentation. They were always themself, even if they acted slightly differently. Gender was overrated.

She felt she/they at the moment. Hopefully that would last until she came home. But she was going to wear that dress and look absolutely stunning. Pairing that with a pretty light green hairband to keep back her black, curly hair, and her light green sneakers it looked spectacular. Sporty in some way, while still being beautifully feminine. She grinned at herself in the mirror. Perfect.

(Here's the dress she's wearing... not Colombian but it's so pretty, one of my favorite dresses I've ever seen)

She walked into the kitchen. "You look muy bonita, mija," Papa told her, smiling some. "Remember, don't stay very long."

"Si, Papa. I'll be back soon."

"Try not to talk to those Madrigals!" Abuelo yelled from his room, where he was undoubtedly playing solitaire.

"Si Abuelo!" Elian yelled back, lying through her teeth. When Camilo saw her he would undoubtedly want to at least say hi, and Verónica wasn't the only one who planned to get their best friend together with a Madrigal. Elian would probably end up talking to Mirabel at some point to bring their scheme to fruition.

She walked out the door and ran to la Casita. She blended in with the crowd easily and walked towards the entrance.

Camilo was greeting the townsfolk at the door.

Well, Elian supposed there would be no escape from him. She changed her path to pass right by him. When he caught her eye, he seemed frozen for a moment before approaching her.

"Well. You look absolutamente magnifica."

"Gracias, Madrigal mágico. I am stunning, aren't I?" She performed an extravagant bow. He shifted into her and took her hand, mirroring the movement.

"I look spectacular like this, hm?" he teased.

"It's true. You'll never want to change back, now will you?"

"Why be you when I can have you?" Camilo said, turning back. He winked at her.

"Did I say that?" Elian smiled mischievously, pulling her hand from his.

"See you inside!" he called after her as she swept off.

She glanced over her shoulder. "If you're lucky," she spoke with a smirk, and then she was inside. Now to find Verónica.

Holy shittttt.

She looked so good.

She was definitely a she right now. And while he had definitely found her attractive as a boy, the dress was beautiful. She hadn't been trying to be pretty earlier, and while she had been then, this was next level. When Camilo had seen and recognized her, he had been struck motionless for a moment. Just a moment, and then he could become his usual smirking self.

He continued greeting the guests, but he was unable to get her off his mind.

He still didn't know her name.

Elian found Verónica with ease, having helped pick the girl's outfit. "Chica! You look estupendo!"

"Gracias, you too."

"Did you see loverboy at the door?" Verónica teased.

"Yeah, we interacted. A hello, some compliments, a goodbye. Average."

"Does he call every girl who comes his way 'absolutamente magnifica?'"

Elian winced. "So you heard that. Wonderful."

"He's so into you, muchacha! Why'd you reject him?"

"You know my Abuelo. And I'd rather get to know him, you know? I won't lie, he's cool, but despite my flirting I don't rush into things." They went quiet as the lights went off and a spotlight fell onto the smallest Madrigal, Antonio. He seemed frozen in the bright lights.

Antonio coaxed Mirabel to walk with him, and the beautiful girl finally relented. When they got to the top, he placed his hand on the doorknob.

It lit up golden and slowly, an image was formed. A toucan swooped into the room and chattered brightly to the young Madrigal. Then a swarm of animals rushed into la casita.

Antonio could talk to animals.

"We have a new gift!" Señora Madrigal called to the crowd there was a loud cheer as everyone began to file into Antonio's massive jungle room. For a second the jealousy that fueled her Abuelo ran through Elian. But she shook it off and smiled at the beautiful room. There was a light chatter and Señora Madrigal called for a family photo.

Elian frowned at the picture. Mirabel wasn't in there. As the family separated, Elian wondered where she'd gone and why she hadn't joined her family. Then the music started and a hand grabbed and twirled her.

They went with the dance and finished with a swaying of her hips as she looked at her partner.

"Do you do that to all the people who steal from you?" Elian said with a small laugh as she stared into the brown eyes of Camilo Madrigal.

"No, just the pretty ones," he said, grinning. She smirked at him.

"Well then. I suppose I should be blessed to be among the worthy, niño bonito."

"Oh, it's my turn to be a pretty boy?"

"I won't bother denying your looks. Just because they can't compare to mine doesn't mean they're bad." She winked at him as they danced around each other. "It's a high bar."

He was about to respond when Mirabel burst into the room again. "Something's wrong with la Casita! A tile fell, and there were cracks in the walls--" She broke off, looking panicked. Camilo looked worried as he rushed to the front of the crowd to see, still holding Elian's hand.

But when they got out, there was nothing there. "What?! But I saw..." She held up her cut hand. "You have to believe me! I cut my hand on the tile!"

Señora Madrigal gave her a stern look. "Everything is fine. Go back to partying, people. The magic is strong-- and so are the drinks."

There was muted laughter at that. The guests walked back into the jungle room to resume the party.
