Living in Encanto was not without its trials and tribulations.Elian and Camilo didn't care.
Camilo got used to she/her pronouns when they felt like they wanted them. They kept their name but enjoyed the nickname 'Cami' when they felt more feminine.
Verónica finally asked Mirabel out, much to Camilo and Elian's elation. Mirabel went on to become the candle holder after Alma died, and give out the gifts to the next generation. Verónica loved watching Mirabel's face every time new gifts were bequested, and did her best to support her wife.
Elian and Verónica moved into the Casita with their partners when they were nineteen. It was a bit of an adjustment, for Verónica especially-- Elian had moved before and didn't have a lot of things, while Verónica was a hoarder-- but with each other down the hall and their partners in their rooms, the two did it easily.
Camilo and Elian decided to never have children. They were mainly interested in being fun auncles. There was an argument with Abuela over that, but she managed to find it within herself to forgive them once it became obvious they weren't changing their minds.
Besides, Dolores and Mariano had enough kids to keep everyone occupied, and it seemed like Luisa might be on the way there with her husband, a shy boy who kept on the outskirts of town. He helped with the donkeys and had quietly fallen in love with her as she came by to help out.
Antonio grew up happy with Elian and Verónica hanging around, and eventually fell for a genderless person he'd been friends with for a long time. He asked his older sibling for help a lot, and Camilo and Elian loved engineering their meetups and helping him. Antonio had to ask them to back off sometimes, which they did grudgingly.
Isabela fell for a beautiful girl she had seen in the courtyard three years before Mariano. The jig was up once Mirabel noticed her going out of the way to see Adriana each morning. She and Veronica organized a true meeting for them and, they fell in love soon after.
David stayed on the outskirts of town, only going out to get food. Elian took pity on him and sent him the money for it so he didn't have to work-- not much, just enough that he could get by if he was careful-- but didn't bother talking to him. Eventually, it got to the point where they knew the rift between them was too great to ever breach it. He spent his life bitterly, just like his father.
Natalia had a happy life, staying single for the rest of her life and loving it. Elian still didn't talk to her very often. It still hurt, but they did stop by now and then for a free empanada and to see how she was doing.
Camilo and Elians's wedding was small, just their families. It was held at their section of the river, just downstream of where Alma had gotten their miracle, and it was beautiful. They both wrote poems for their vows.
Verónica was Elian's maid of honor, of course.
David and Natalia were not invited to the ceremony, though Natalia did cater for and attend the afterparty. David didn't bother. Elian was grateful for that.
They had accordions and other typical Colombian instruments play lively music and they danced quickly and well, just as they had the night of Antonio's gift ceremony.
In modern times their songs would be Criminal by Strange Tides, Walking the Wire by Imagine Dragons, and Classic by MKTO.
As cliche as it is, it was the happiest day of their lives.
Elian and Camilo led a poetic masterpiece of a life.
