The Runaway Princess

Chapter Three

Elizabeth entered Dylan's room without knocking. Dylan jumped at the frightening sound the door made when she closed it forcefully. He calmed down when he realized it was Elizabeth.

"What's going on?" He asked obviously upset.

"You can't just barge into my room to break down the door" he said. Dylan was sprawled on the bed reading a book.

Elizabeth said nothing as she sat on the bed beside him. She wasn't smiling and Dylan noticed that. Dylan sat down beside her, taking her hands in his.

"What's wrong?" He asked calmly. Elizabeth looked at him with tears in her eyes. Soon the tears were falling. Dylan began to get worried.

"Please don't cry and tell me what's wrong" he said and hugged her.

"Why?" She asked amidst tears. Dylan was confused.

"Why? Aren't I enough for you?" She asked again.

Dylan didn't know what to say because he didn't understand her.

"I don't understand you" Dylan said.

Elizabeth forcefully freed herself from his embrace.

"Why are you cheating on me?" She asked shocking Dylan and his jaw dropped.

"What makes you think that I'm cheating on you?" Dylan asked.

"Don't even try to deny it. I heard your conversation with her. I heard everything you said. You told her you love her, you miss her and that you want to see her. Dylan, I've always done everything for you. I didn't even want to be here but I decided to give us a chance. It's not fair"

She was already crying loudly.

Dylan was confused on what to do. The conversation was definitely with his sister but Elizabeth thought he was cheating on her. Before he could do anything, she was already out of his room. Dylan groaned as he fell on his bed. Without wasting time, he called Emerald.

Emerald: Brother, do you realize I'm at work right now?

Dylan: I know, I'm sorry for calling you right now but I think I'm in trouble.

Emerald: What? What's wrong?

Dylan: Elizabeth overheard my conversation with you and now she thinks I'm cheating on her. If I don't resolve this quick, father might hear of it.

Emerald: I'm not going to tell you to tell her about me

Dylan: I can't tell her. This is something that should remain between us for as long as possible. Elizabeth won't keep it to herself.

Emerald: (Sighs) Then you have to apologize for something you didn't even do.

Dylan: Why would she even conclude that I'm cheating on her. That means she doesn't trust me.

Emerald: Just apologize and everything would be settled. I have to go now. Bye

Dylan: Bye.

After dinner, Dylan went to his room thinking on how to present his apology to Elizabeth. His mother had noticed that Elizabeth wasn't in a good mood and she didn't fail to point it out.

When he was sure most people in the palace were asleep, he went to her room. Elizabeth was curled in a ball and was crying silently. Dylan began to feel guilty.

He got on the bed beside her. Elizabeth opened her eyes and sat up when she saw that it was Dylan. Elizabeth opened her mouth to talk but before she could say anything, Dylan hugged her to himself.

"I'm so sorry" he whispered in her ear. "I promise you that it won't happen again" he said.

"Promise?" She asked childishly. Dylan smiled. "Promise" he replied.

"Your highness" Dylan called. Elizabeth chuckled. "Please, don't tell mother about it" he begged.

Elizabeth leaned in and kissed his lips and Dylan deepened it. Elizabeth broke the kiss to catch her breath.

"I won't tell her." She said and claimed his lips again. The kiss got deeper and hotter. Dylan kissed her earlobe down to her neck. Elizabeth got hold of herself and pushed Dylan away.

"Why?" Dylan whined childishly making Elizabeth giggle.

"Let's get married. I'm ready" Elizabeth said.

Dylan was shocked. "Is it because..." "No no." She cut him off. "I'm ready to be your wife. It should have happened a long time ago anyway" she said.

Dylan was so happy he hugged her and kissed her hard. "Thank you so much" he said.

That night the couple cuddled and slept off.

The following morning, the queen wanted to have an alone time with Elizabeth and she decided to wake her up herself. She knocked repeatedly but there was no response. Elizabeth was a light sleeper so, it was unusual.

Elizabeth's personal maid wanted to go in but the queen decided to go in herself. She entered the room and was surprised at the sight of Elizabeth and Dylan. She smiled to herself and left the room quietly.

"Don't go in until she comes out herself." She said to Elizabeth's maid and left. She was happy. She couldn't wait to tell the King what she has seen.
