I walked confidently through the doors of Avid High. I quickly surveyed the income freshmen, and gave a few nervous ones a smile. Despite common misconceptions, popular girls are not always mean. I was once in those kids' shoes, I knew how it felt to be overlooked.

I was broken out of my reminiscence by the squeals of my best friend, Jessica Brown. Jessi always looked picture perfect. She was quite possibly Cara Delevingne's doppelganger. Without the accent of course. Jessi was kind, smart, funny, and filthy rich. But Jessi was also one of the most caring people I had ever met. She was always there for me no matter what.

"Bethy!" Jessi screamed. She ran over and picked me up off the ground and squeezed me so tightly I thought my intestines would pop. For such a skinny girl, she was strong. "Calm down, Jess, we saw each other last night." "But last night we weren't seniors," she hummed in her best singsony voice. Another thing about Jessi, she's captain of the cheer team and overly peppy. "Yeah, yeah. We're seniors. But I don't want to be a late senior, let's get our schedules and go to class." "You're just grumpy because Jake isn't here." Jessi pursed her lips. She was right, of course. Nobody knew me as well as Jessi. Life in this hell hole would be miserable without Jake. Yes, I was bitter, but I wasn't gonna let that keep me from having the best year of my life.

My schedule, to my surprise, was quite pleasing. I had four classes with Jessi and the other two were with my other best friend, Lydia. Lydia was the school flirt. She wasn't who I'd typically be friends with, but her humor made up for her imperfect choices.

After getting my schedule, I grabbed Lydia and we quickly made our way to calculus. When we sat down, I surveyed the room. Most of the kids were in my math class last year, but some I didn't recognize. Before I could finish studying my classmates, our teacher stepped up to the front of the classroom. He was young. Maybe 24? He looked far too inexperienced to be teaching a calculus class. But he was handsome, he had bright blue eyes and dark brown hair and he was nicely put together. "Hey guys," he began as he clapped his hands. "I'm Mr. Russet your calculus teacher." Mr. Russet glanced around the room, but his eyes stopped when they met mine. He looked at me for a startling second then averted his gaze and continued. Lydia leaned over and whispered, "Did our hot math teacher just check you out?" Honestly, I didn't know what his gaze meant but it definitely wasn't kind. It was so intense, it had made my cheeks warm. "I don't think so," I replied. "Good because I have dibs."

What do you guys think so far? Also, I need some song because I'm thinking of making a playlist on 8Tracks. What are some songs about mental diseases? DISCLAIMER: THE MENTAL DISEASES IN THIS BOOK ARE NOT INTENDED TO OFFEND ANYONE AND ARE PURELY FOR PLOT PURPOSE ONLY. xx
