Hey guys! Wow, it's been a while, huh? Well, the wait is over. Here is the new chapter, hope y'all enjoy!
3rd POV (heroes)
"Ahh!" Kid Flash screams. "Where did you come from?!"
The old lady laughs softly.
"My name is Maria; I live on the first floor of this building. I must say, I thought the Justice League and their partners would know better than to break the law."
Before any of the other Leaguers can speak, Kid Flash yells indignantly.
"What are you talking about, lady?!! We're heroes, we don't break the law!"
"Oh?" Maria raises an eyebrow and smiles dryly. "So, breaking and entering isn't against the law? My old age must be getting to me."
Kid Flash opens his mouth to retort, but no words come out. He stands there for a moment, gaping like a fish, before crossing his arms and grumbling quietly to himself. Robin cackles at his friend's plight, while Batman takes this time to speak.
"You know him." It is not phrased as a question.
Maria smiles sadly. "Yes, I know Karma. That poor boy has been through enough already, he doesn't need people breaking into his home and invading his privacy."
Batman nods slightly, "we know what he's been through-,"
"No, you don't," Maria interrupts Batman, causing the sidekicks to look at her in shock, and the Leaguers to become surprised. This old woman has some bite.
"At least, not all of it," she amends.
The group is quiet for a moment, then, "we want to understand."
The woman's eyes soften, "I'm sure you do, but it's not up to me. You have to earn his trust, and he trusts very few. He has lost hope in people, he finds peace in animals and nature now."
Aqualad steps closer to the woman and says solemnly, "we do not know what Karma has been through, but we will do our best to help him and earn his trust all the same. Please, let us try."
At Maria's considering look, to everyone's surprise Superboy steps up.
"We can help him, we will help him," he says determinedly.
The woman looks at them for a while, before finally smiling.
"I think friends would be good for Karma, but you all need to promise me something. Promise me that you will be his friends, and never betray him the way others have."
Superboy and Aqualad immediately nod seriously. Robin does so with Kid Flash, both determined. The sidekicks look up at their mentors imploringly. The heroes give smiles or nods.
"We'll take good care of him," Black Canary promises with a smile.
Batman looks back at Maria, "is he a meta?"
Maria looks at Batman soberly, seeming to be analyzing him. After a moment, she sighs and speaks.
"I'm not sure if he is a meta or not, I only know he possess an amazing power," she admits quietly.
"Ever since...," Maria pauses noticeably before continuing on, "well, since then, it seems the universe itself favors him. It seems similar to luck, except it is boundless. Cars veer out of his way, bullets change their path last minute, it seems that almost nothing can hurt him. If he has been helping you, he has probably found a way to direct his power to help others. That is all I know though, the rest, you will have to learn from him."
