chapter 16

Sophia's perspective

"Great, it's settled. I'm coming." His voice is firm. He starts quickly moving towards the door pulling me along with him.

"Okay, But first we need to go to my castle. I would like to change into my mission suit and the entrance to the Mystic Isles is near my place."

"Sounds good."

A few minutes later 

Hugo and I race into the hall of protectors. We get many questioning glances as Hugo is following close behind me.

"Who's your friend?"Krista asks

"My boyfriend, Prince Hugo."

"Mmm" Krista looks him up and down it is unclear what she thinks about his presence here. But she guides me to an orb displaying a scene on the Isle of Flowers.

"Everything's turning black and white."Hugo gasps in surprise.

"Princess Ivy."I spit her name out.

"Who?"Krista ask

"She tried to take over my kingdom a few years ago. She must have escaped her Island prison. But how did she get here?"The Isles are closed but for a singular magical portal. How did she get in?

"A good question princess. But not the one that we should be asking. What does she want? And how can you stop her? Sophia, please tell us any information you have on her."

"Her name is Princess Ivy as I previously mentioned. She has magical black and white butterflies that change everything to black and white. She also has dragonflies that can sedate you and erase your memory. She comes from a kingdom where everything is black and white. And she tried to usurp her sister for the throne. She failed miserably and got banished to an island. In the south sea."

"It's good to know what we're up against. Thank you for the information Sophia."Vega turns from speaking to me to address the rest of the protectors.

"This is very clearly not a friendly visit. But it is not the first time someone has tried to take over the Isles. Orion, would you lead a dispatch team to try to sneak up on her and we will detain her for questioning."

"That may work, however you're so brightly colorful. The butterflies will be attracted to us. We should camouflage ourselves."I speak clearly and loudly hoping to make my point come across. I don't know what Princess Ivy is up to but I am not going to let her get away with it.

Krista jumps off the ground and flies towards Vega and Orion"Chiefs, maybe Sophia should lead this mission. She's the only one who has come in contact with the threat before."

"I suppose that makes sense," Orion speak slowly stroking his chin.

"Do you feel up to it Sophia?"Vega questions me.

"Yes, I can do it."

"Here's the plan. We sneak to the Isle of Flowers. You guys stay hidden and I'll distract her. You sneak up behind her with a magic mirror and I'll push her into it."

"All right let's go."Hugo nods his head.

"He's not a protector."Krista states.

"But I can help."Hugo silently pleads with Krista to allow him to help us.

"Trust me he is more helpful than he looks."I smile at him and place my hand on his shoulder reassuringly.

We arrive in a meadow normally filled with color and life and musical flowers that dance. Now it's a black-and-white wasteland with droopy flowers.

I see Ivy in the center of the clearing. Black and white trees make a semicircle, perfect cover for my fellow protectors. I watch her. She is blissfully unaware of my presence. The other protectors start sneaking around behind her using the trees. Ivy starts looking over. I caught the abnormal movement. That's when I decided to call out her name making my presence known.

" Ivy!"

" Why Sophia, I should have known you tried to get in my way."

"I'm bothersome that way."I state sassily with my hands on my hips.

" Well you're not going to stop me this time. There's nothing you can do."Princess Ivy cackles.

"I'll stop you. I bet you it'll be easy" For a moment my eyes shift over to where I know Hugo and the others are hiding. They're just halfway around the clearing. Just a little farther and they'll be behind her. I just need to stall a little more.

"It's too bad you enjoy spoiling fun, Sophia. The two of us could have been such good friends."

" Not likely."I start walking towards Ivy. I need to be in her personal space if I'm going to push her into the mirror the others are lining up behind her.

"Maybe we still can."Ivy smirks.

I feel sharp pain in the back of my neck and another on my back. I'm perplexed and confused and before I know it I start falling forward. I hear Hugo scream my name and I see a flash of blue that must be Krista's wing.

Hugo's perspective

Sofia is doing an excellent job stalling Princess Ivy. and Krista and I are Inching towards an ambush position. Just a few seconds more and we'll have Ivy trapped.

My gaze fixes on Sophia. She talks confidently as she moves forward. But there by her ponytail is a dragonfly. I want to yell out to warn her but I can't give away our position. Before I say anything Sofia starts falling to the ground.

"Sofia!"I race to run and catch her.

In my peripheral vision, I see Ivy take hold of the side of the mirror frame frame and shove the mirror on top of Krista who gets absorbed inside of it. In a blur of black and white Ivy is gone. We failed and Sophia is hurt.
