Elizabeth POV
I open my eyes to see the moon staring right back at me. But it's too bright, yet it doesn't hurt to stare. I should be dead. Maybe this is the afterlife? I sit up to find myself sitting on top on a near endless ocean but I can't sink. I look down to see myself in hunters clothing, black pants and shirt, a grey coat that hung to my ankles and a feathery tricorn hat laying next to me.
I turn around to see if there is anything behind me but only see more infinite ocean. Slowly I stand up and pick the hat up. I start walking in some direction, not that there's anything that could let me know where I'm headed.
After what felt like hours of walking I come across a woman. This woman had on a large white dress whit lots of blood stains near the stomach area. As I start to approach her my head starts to vigorously hurt. Yet seeing no other option of escape, I push forward. After only making a few more steps towards the woman I collapse, darkness surrounding me as I pass out from the pain.
I wake to a new sight. A familiar one. The Hunter's Dream.
"No" I whisper.
I shouldn't be here. The hunt is long over. The ties should be shattered. Yet here I am. I stomp over to the doll angrily, avoiding eye contact due to who she was made to imitate.
"Where is he?!" I say while grabbing the doll by her collar.
"Gehrman?" The doll replies, showing no emotion or reaction to me.
"Who else would I be talking about? Yes him!" I say while pulling her closer.
"Gehrman has been gone for a while now." I hear from another voice. It sounds like it came from within the workshop. I let go of the doll and go up the steps.
"Well if Gehrman isn't here, who can send me home?" I ask as I go through the doorway. I look to the end of the room to see a woman in what used to be Gehrman's chair. I can't make out much of what she looks like as the chair is turned around, but from what I can see, she has white hair.
"That would be me, but, I'm afraid the Moon Presence has other plans for you." She says as she stands up.
"Who are you exactly?"
She turns around to reveal... Maria? The tricorn hat in my hand hits the floor. I can't muster up a single word. My mind is racing but every thought always comes back to the same question, how? I take off my glove and put my hand on her cheek. It feels real, she feels real. She smiles at me and I smile back. She looks exactly like she did the day she left. A tear drops from my eye as I engulf her in my arms. She reciprocates the motion.
"H-how? You're supposed to be dead!" I say as a let go of her
"Gehrman's time as overseer of the Dream was up. The Moon Presence decided pick me to oversee the Dream. You were originally supposed to be the one who was the replacement but the Moon Presence couldn't manage to get ahold of you. That is until now, the Moon Presence has a task for you... our time is sadly limited. I know this is a lot Elizabeth, but, I'm happy I get to see you again even if it is the last time." She ends with a smile
I bring her back in for a hug
"Well... I don't want to drag this out before it gets to hard to leave. What do I have to do?" I say as leave her embrace.
"Just go into the garden, she's waiting there."
"Walk with me?" I asked as I reached for her hand
She took it and we went towards the stairs. I couldn't help but feel bad for the doll as I stared at her. I was so rude and so selfish towards her. Even though she's just a doll, she has helped and loved many hunters through their journey.
I let go of Maria's hand and hugged the doll.
"I'm sorry Doll, thank you for everything." I said as I tore away from her. She never gave any expression of emotion. I like to think that there is some emotion in her though, she at the very least cares for the Hunters.
After talking to the doll I rejoined Maria and made our way to the garden. Once we got to the center of the garden we got ready to part ways.
"The Moon Presence will take you from here. I'm afraid this is where we part ways." She said as she gave a sad smile to me
"Are you sure you can't come with? I haven't seen you in years! I-I... I just want to have a friend again."
"I have my duties to attend to. We'll see each other again some day."
"You promise?"
"Yes"
I let go of her hand and made towards the center of the garden. The moon slowly became a deep crimson color as I approached the center.
A large bloody beast started descending from the sky. It had black and red tentacles with an exposed rib cage. Ironically, it was beautiful in it's horror. It's morbid captivity kept me staring throughout its descent.
It's arms extended to me once it hit the ground. Slowly wrapping around me as it pulled me closer. Eventually I got close enough to where the mere presence of it was unbearable. It felt like I was going insane staring into its empty face. Before it could pull me in all the way I faded out of consciousness.
—
Waking up I find myself back in the infinite ocean. Only this time the moon is a deep crimson color, similar to the one in the garden. My attire has once again changed. I've gone from a hunters attire to a hospital gown. I could feel and see bandages all over my body, though, I felt no pain.
I look over to see an exact copy of me staring at the moon. As I walk over to it, it turns to look at me.
"Greetings Hunter"
"Who are you?"
"I'm the moon presence, or rather a representation of me. The human mind can not comprehend my true nature."
"Was that not you in the garden?"
"It was, but in this plane of existence I am much more. I had to bring you in here so we could talk."
"About what?"
"The world you were sent to, Remnant, has a great evil. That great evil is in contact with the other gods of this world. She is manipulating them. She's going to use them to take over Remnant, then she'll come here. I need you to put a stop to her."
"And you can't do this?"
"We can not enter remnant, for it is not our fate to do so. However communication is possible through means like this."
"Okay, how exactly am I supposed to beat this evil on remnant?"
It reached out one hand and placed it on my forehead
"You need to open your eyes"
A/N: I hope this is a good set up to what I'm planning next. I hope to get back into writing more consistently as summer approaches
