Mercy is what Gehrman called it. No better word for it. I awoke not in Yharnam but in a frozen tundra. I still couldn't forget what happened in Yharnam. Nothing could erase those memories. Except... death. Possibly in this strange new place I would be released from the chains of the dream and be able to die.

As happy as I would be to die, I had a job to do. Secrets to protect, beast to hunt. And in this strange tundra I had found myself in, beast I had never seen before attempted to murder me. As menacing as they were, they were quite easy to deal with.

I had also ran into some hunters as well. The wielded guns that shot brightly colored bullets at the beasts. They tried to restrain me... they didn't live to tell the tale. Hopefully more wouldn't come. I don't like killing innocent people, I envy them in fact.

A few things about those hunters bothered me though. First they called themselves huntsmen and huntresses. Second they asked for my huntsman identification. Third... their blood wasn't tainted. I began to wonder where I had found myself.

"I'm only going to say this once. Drop your weapons and turn to us slowly."

I turned around to the voice. 5 people stood looking at me with more strange weapons drawn. One of them a beast.

"A good hunter wouldn't work with a beast. It will only be a short time before he loses his sanity." I said while tightening my grip on Evelyn

"What?! He is not a beast!" Said the muscular woman.

"Perhaps not yet. But soon he will lose himself to the blood. A sad fate, but a common one among hunters." I holstered Evelyn before planting both hands on the Rakuyo, ready to activate it's trick.

A look of confusion washed over the faces of the five. Have they never heard of the hunt, the blood?!

"Enough nonsense! Time to get you back to Atlas." The man in front said.

He started to approach me with some sort of item I assumed was a restraint. Twisting the handle on the Rakuyo, I split the weapon in two and assumed a defensive stance.

"Freeze!" The beast said while snapping his fingers.

I found myself being unable to move. Almost like I was frozen in time. The group started moving towards me again.

They started to close in on me by the time I had gained control of my body again. But I didn't move instantly. Instead I waited to strike, they clearly didn't know I was in control.

Once the leader make a grab towards my hands I struck. I jabbed the longer blade into his chest and found out that he had a similar barrier to the hunters before. One that blocked all damage that I would have produced if it wasn't there. But it could be broken so I wouldn't give up.

The leader flew back a couple meters which gave me some room to fight the other four surrounding me. The muscular woman struck first, attempting to hit me with her massive hammer. I dodged and left her open for an attack. I tried to go in for an attack while she was vulnerable but I was hit away by arms made of light.

I was knocked about 15 meters away which put good distance between me and the group. Their leader had joined them once again.

The smaller girl bolted at me leaving trails of lightning behind. Predicting when she would hit, I connected the Rakuyo and shot a bullet of Evelyn at where I predicted she would be. The bullet was able to stun her but due to the barrier around her I would be unable to riposte. So instead I launched myself back at the group.

I went in for another swing at the muscular girl. The blade hit but instead of launching her back she stayed firmly planted. I looked down to her feet to see them connected to the ground by a mysterious light source. I was able to look up in time to watch the hammer swing up into my chest and launch me a good 30 meters away from the group.

I couldn't win without help... help from the blood. I separated the Rakuyo and stabbed myself in the chest. I heard gasps coming from the group. They clearly didn't know what I was doing. The fast girl began to close in on me. Just before she could reach me, I withdrew my blades from my chest. The explosion of blood knocked her flat on her back. With my blades now infused with blood, I launched into the air and came crashing down on the rest of the group.

The beast and the leader were knocked back but the muscular girl and extended arms held their ground with the light anchors that they produced. With them anchored in place I started swinging. My blades were able to hit both of my targets with the blood extending its reach.

The muscular girl tried to counter attack but I was able to send her flying. The other guy wasn't as lucky though. His barrier shattered shortly after I launched the girl. Just as I was going in for the kill a hook wrapped around my body and spun me around so I couldn't strike him. Now facing the rest of the team I charged forward. Before I could reach them, I was pelted with bullets by the beast and was left bleeding on the ground.

Flying metal ships started to drop off more hunters. Eventually I was surrounded my 20 or more hunters.

"If you wish to live, I would co-operate from here on." Said the leader as he approached me once again with the restraints.

I could still win. But I would have to go even farther back on Maria's word. I'm sure she wouldn't mind using my true power.

I stood in front of the girl as she stood up from the ground. She sure could take a beating without an aura.

She rested her arms at her side before floating up in the air. Blood from her previous swings floated into her. After all the blood had came back to her, another explosion of blood occurred. Her blood infused blades were now aflame and even more of a threat.

Thankfully, Vine had a bit of fight left in him and held her back with what energy he had left. This gave us time to restrain her and strip her of her weapons.

They had been asking me questions for hours. I had been tied up to some chair, boring myself to death in the meantime.

"Sorry for keeping you here for this long. You are possibly the strangest subject we've ever had." The man known as 'General' said while putting down the papers with all of the questions on them.

"Am I free to go now?" I said

"Just one more question." He said before staring at me

"Would you like to join Atlas as a specialist?"

I couldn't contain my laughter. Me joining them?! What a joke. They had just tried to kill me and now they're asking me to join them.

"I'm sorry what?! I could easily take on you and the 5 from before. What makes you think I'll say yes?"

"I can assure you that if you disagree with me life will not be pleasant for you. We took samples of your blood while you were out. You're not invincible. So I can assure you that if you don't join us... you life will be hell."

I could sense in his voice that he wasn't lying. While While I was stronger than him, he had an army on his side. If I wanted to learn more of this mysterious land saying yes would be the best way to go.

"I'll accept if you can provide a good living arrangement for me."

"We already have that covered... It's Ironwood. General Ironwood."

"Elizabeth."
