Months Before the Storm

You always thought the rain had such a funny smell. That smell that makes other people crinkle their noses or even sneeze. It made you smile a bit.

It was calming. Even relaxing.

But so ugly when the rainstorm is over and you're just left with its ugly mess. The mud, puddles, everything soaked, and the lingering dark clouds taunting the land for another round. Watching the rain can be nice from afar, hell even walking in it isn't too bad. It's just the ugly aftermath of it all.

At least that's what you thought.

Izuku on the other hand adores the aftermath of the rain.

He points at the nearest rainbow with a smile on his face and even purposely stomps in a few puddles while you hide your smile while his lights up. But that's Izuku. He never fails to look for the sun behind the roaring clouds and even if it isn't there he just creates his own sun with that smile of his.

"You know," Izuku said softly, immediately snapping you out of your thoughts and halting your staring. You've been doing that a lot lately. You haven't quite figured out why. In fact, you haven't figured out why your heart beats a bit faster when you two lock eyes and he smiles at you. Damn, the rain must be getting to you.

He continued, "I really think Todoroki is starting to soften up a bit." You tilted your head to the side, a puzzled expression on your face. "He said more than five words today. And they were all polite." He laughed a bit, tilting his own head to mock yours. And there goes that weird feeling in your heart again. "Even Kacchan been a bit decent lately. He didn't cuss anyone out today. Well if you don't count that desk he accidentally ran into," you laughed that time and his smile grew more. Such a bright thing. "I think I'm really going to like our class," truly so bright, you're surprised that the clouds haven't retreated back to their ugly homes- "How 'bout you?" Hmm, he has two dimples when he smiles? Or is it just- "L/n?"

Your eyes widened quickly before you returned them back to their natural state and directed them away from his.

"Y/n." You corrected him.

"Sorry, I-I keep forgetting," he stuttered, "I'll get it eventually."

"Think I'm going to start going by just Y/n from now on." You said. "Suits me better than my last name." It made you feel better for some reason. Your last name just never felt right to be the name you respond to.

"I think so too," Izuku nodded, a small smile on his face that soon fell when you looked over at him. "Not that your last name isn't nice or anything- actually I think your first and last name is pretty nice and-" He immediately started waving his hands around- and there goes his face turning red.

"I understand you, Izuku," you laughed softly, a hand falling on his arm. "I'm starting to get really good at decoding you now," you teased.

His hand fell on yours as he released a heavy sigh, "And I'm so thankful for that." There it goes again. That feeling in your chest. What is that- "What had you so distracted earlier?" He asked. "You kinda zoned out a bit. Dreading going home? Because you can stay over with me and my mom like last time."

"No, I don't want to be a bother," you quickly stated, removing your hand and choosing to stuff both hands in your pockets.

"You're never a bother, Y/n," he whispered.

"That's refreshing," you whispered more to yourself. "And I was just thinking about- um- today's English lesson." That sounds better than saying you were thinking why you suddenly get heart problems around him. Is it the weather?
