•Your POV•

My faith in the girl I've slowly fallen in love with was fading. I was getting tired of waiting for her perfect self to appear in front of me. For a moment, I thought she wouldn't show.

Until I saw her familiar silhouette in the dark of night come toward me. She smiled, sitting down on the grass next to me.

"I bet you thought I wouldn't show," (c/n) spoke, her voice as smooth as butter.

"You made it," I said. "And you're correct, Princess (c/n). For a moment, I thought you got caught sneaking out."

"Please, no need for formalities. Just call me (c/n)."

"I missed you, (c/n). It feels like I haven't seen you in centuries even though we were together last night as well."

"I missed you too, (y/n)." She smiled, but the grin quickly dropped, sadness written on her face. "Can I tell you something?"

"What?" I asked, fear bubbling in my stomach.

"Remember I told you last night that the king from the rival kingdom was going to visit with his son?" She asked. I nodded. "My father said I'm going to marry the prince."

I stared at her with my eyes wide and mouth agape. I was at a loss for words. What was I supposed to say? The love of my life was going to marry another.

"W-What?" I stammered.

"I don't want to marry him, (y/n). I barely even know him." She said, choking on a sob. "I don't like him." She leaned against me, delicately resting her head against my shoulder.

My heartbeat sped up, pounding against my chest so hard I hoped she couldn't hear it. Butterflies swarmed my tummy like they always do when she's around.

Am I allowed to wrap my arm around her? I want to hold her.

Slowly, I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, watching her reactions. She looked up at me with tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Is this okay?" I asked her. She nodded, snuggling into me as she sniffled. "I'm gonna need words, (c/n)."

"This is perfect. I love this." She wrapped her arms around my waist. "I wish I could stay like this is with you forever."

Oh, how badly I wanted to stay in this moment until the minute I die. I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life. I wanted every second with her.

But that's not possible.

She's royalty. Future ruler of this kingdom. She has all the fancy clothes. A room filled with precious stones. A palace with land that goes on for miles and miles. What am I compared to her?

I'm nothing close to royalty. I'm a peasant. I don't have even a quarter of the luxuries she does. Her father doesn't even want me to be her friend. She had to sneak out to see me.

Compared to her, I am nothing.

So I picture this moment in my mind, hoping I'll never forget this for the rest of my life. Who knows? Maybe this is the last time I'll be this close to her.

Then a crazy idea popped into my head.

"You know, (c/n)," I spoke. "You don't have to marry him." She lifted her head, looking at me with confusion written all over her angelic features.

"What do you mean I don't?" She asked.

"Why don't we run away?"

"Run away? (Y/n), are you insane? Where are we going to go?"

"I know places." I answered.

"But this is my duty..."

"Think about it, (c/n)," I started. "If we get out of this town together, we'll be free to do whatever we want to. Just the two of us. You won't have any Royal duties. You won't have to marry a man you hate."

"I don't know..."

"I won't force you to do this if you don't want to." I gently push her hair behind her ear. "Just think about it."

I could tell by the look on her face that she was considering it. I was ready to take the rejection, but I silently hoped she would say yes.

"I say-"

"What the hell are you doing with my daughter?" A deep, commanding voice cuts off my precious girl. The King.

(C/n) quickly scrambled to her feet, looking at down in shame. I stood up, grabbing her soft hand in mine.

His disappointed gaze shifted from (c/n) to me, his emotion turned to disgust as he stared me down. His eyes trailed down to our clasped hands. The disgust quickly turned to anger as he grabbed his daughter's arm, pulling her away from me. I glared at him.

"Don't touch her like that!"

"What are you doing with her, (c/n)?" The King asked angrily. "You know we don't associate ourselves with peasants." He spat. "Especially now that you are to marry the Prince."

"But, Father, I don't wish to marry him," she said, looking the King in the eyes. "I don't love him. I want to marry (y/n)!"

"I don't care what you want. Marrying the Prince will do a lot for our kingdom. We are going home." He said, leaving no room for argument. "Guards, take the peasant to the dungeons. She is to be exiled next week." The Royal Guards grabbed me. I struggled to get out of their hold.

"Let me go!" I screamed at them.

"No!" (C/n) exclaimed. "Please don't send her away." She begged as her Father dragged her away from me, her voice getting softer as she got further and further away from me. "I'll never talk to her again. I'll do whatever you say! I promise!"

Just like that, she was out of reach and I was thrown into the dungeons. I never heard from her again.
