I absolutely despise investors who don’t know what they’re saying.

“We are impressed with what you’re doing Mr. Bennet, but your age makes us question certain things. I am pretty sure all of my companions here think that you’re too young to be handling all of this by yourself, and that too at the top of the managerial chain.”

The balding man looked around for confirmation as he continued, “Again, I guess I speak for all of us here that we’d like it if you could schedule a meeting with the senior Mr. Bennet or Mr. Carson before we take our decision”

“Mr. Jones, Mr. Bennet has proved himself many a times with his quick thinking and excellent skills, so I don’t see why you’d like to talk to the senior Mr. Bennet when his son is doing the job perfectly.”, said a man in his thirties in my defense.

“Thank you for that, Mr. Smith” Turning to the said man, I said, “I’ll inform my father and Mr. Carson about your doubts and arrange for a meeting with them but unfortunately for you, they think the same as Mr. Smith. So, I wish you the best of luck with that.”

I dismissed the meeting and waited for them to leave but Smith had other ideas as he came up to me and said, “Don’t think much about what Jones said. There will be many who will try to make you feel small, but don’t let them win, just believe in yourself.”

I ran a hand through my hair as I saw him leave. Why can’t people not mind their own fucking business?

Sure, some of the ‘oldies’ don’t trust the ‘youngsters’ but can’t they let go of their prejudices and try and work together for once? I swear this group of investors will be the end of me. Wait, hell no, I’m not letting someone bring me down so easily. I’ll prove to the world that what I’ve achieved is through my own hard work and not because I’m some ‘pampered kid’.

I drove back to the hotel I was staying in and was somewhat relaxed as I entered into the comfort of my room. But even a warm shower couldn’t put my mind at ease.

I was standing by the glass wall which overlooked the Eiffel tower when I felt something vibrate and realized that someone was calling me. I answered the call without checking for the caller id, I had a fair idea about who the caller could be.

“The Queen of Hearts says hello to Mr. hot-shot CEO”, sang the voice of my best friend. Trust that idiot to bring my mood up without even knowing.

I smiled to myself and said, “Well, the “hot shot CEO” is honored to be in the queen’s presence.”

“As you should be, you mortal peasant”, she said in a haughty voice, “how was the meeting Mr. CEO?”

“It was… fine Al.”

“Was it the dickhead Jones again? Ugh I swear that man needs to be given a lesson or two…when can I kill him?”, she was shuffling around, probably looking for something.

“Yeah, it was him again, but I guess it wasn’t that bad. I’ve heard worse.

I really don’t understand why people don’t trust us ‘youngsters’… and it’s tiring me Al, why do I have to prove my skills to everyone just because they think I’m not fit for the position? Our fathers obviously thought a lot about it and professionally trained me before deciding that I could be trusted with the authorities of our company!” I could hear her silent breaths as I vented my thoughts out, waiting for me to let it all out and hopefully feel better? It somehow worked every time.

“Then why is it that the investors don’t trust me? Why do they feel the need to cross check things with “the senior Mr. Bennet and Mr. Carson”?! Why not let Evan Bennet be his own person and not make him think low of himself? Is it because I am just a normal human and not some “merciless heir” they expected?! I’m tired Alice and I don’t know what to do…”
