"Alice, I'm telling you, this new recipe is going to take over everyone's senses and they'll keep coming back for the 'red velvet cinnamon rolls'!", Sophie exclaimed.

Sophie had a part time job in my bakery and I swear, I've never met anyone who is as much in love with baking as that kid.

The smell of freshly baked goodies hit us as we both entered through the back door of 'Bakes and Blossoms'

There's just something about the smell of bakeries that makes me feel at peace. It feels like I'm finally home, in the embrace of my mother who devoted her life to the dream of opening her own bakery.

I like to think that, no matter who the baker is or why they have taken up a profession in baking, there's always some amount of love poured into baking; and that love makes up for it all.

Maybe that was why I decided to open a bakery of my own and spread all the love I could? Or maybe I just wanted to be selfish and preserve my mom's dream with me, forever. I might be gone but I hope that my bakery lives for as long as it can.

I'll spoil Evan's kids with my baked goodies and make them fall in love with baking and then give them the bakery! Or even Hugo or Hazel's kids can inherit the bakery after my death?

I shook the thoughts of death away from my mind as I greeted my employees.

The kitchen of the bakery had all the necessary appliances and surprisingly everything was in it's place and in order. We had received a big order from one of our regular customers and everyone was hustling around the kitchen.

I made my way to my office and went through our Accounts.

Gods this really sucks, for I was never an accounts kind of girl. When it comes to culinary arts or business studies, I'm your girl but accounts?

Nuh-uh, that was more of Hugo's field of expertise, literally. He's one of the most prestigious accountants of our company and well, dad really is proud of him for that.

But, I have to do the job myself here since I haven't hired a professional yet thanks to the lack of funds. I don't think I'll be able to afford one anytime soon, but hey one can hope!

I proceeded to go through our digital Journal,

Derek's & Co.              $4000 Cr.
(purchased equipment, payment due)

Brown & Co.               $5600 Cr.
(purchased raw material, payment due)

Brown & Co.              $6500 Cr.
(purchased machinery, payment due)

[sorry for interrupting, but the Cr. stands for Credit and not some "krrr" like my sister thought. also, for more info about this part, refer to the a/n at the end]

I groaned as I thought about these transactions. These were bad! Really bad. Shit, I owe people a lot.

I let my eyes wander around and look at the familiar structure of the room. Sunshine was seeping in through the glass pane, lighting up the room and filling it with the feelings of joy and warmth, contradicting the state of my mind.

I think the recent order will cover for at least one of them and hopefully our turnover is better than last month or else the bakery will go in debts.

Seeing that autumn was nearing and we get many orders around this time, the bakery would be fine.
Besides, bakery goods are in demand all year round, so it isn't that big of a deal, and if we ignored these huge credits, our profit ratio was good and we get orders from many catering businesses .
