Steven POV
The human collapsed right in front of me. Betty came running up when she heard the noise. "Dad is everything alright I heard a noise?" she asked.
"Yeah everything's fine. I just need to turn this human over to the military." I answered. She walked over, and checked it.
"Dad he's wounded we can't just turn him over." she argued. I let out a sigh knowing this will be a fight.
"He's probably a dangerous killer. Look he has an assault rifle with multiple mags." I retort. Her head whips around to face me.
"So since he's the last human he should just give up. Is that what your saying." she snarled.
"Don't you start I've seen what his kind can do. They have blown up whole cities with their own still in them. That's not even touching on their own history." I shout.
"If your so sure of yourself on who he is. Then just shoot him, and end his species." she challenged. I give in since I know if I don't then she'll try to save him alone. I pick the human up over my shoulder.
Betty runs inside to clear off a table. As I walk in I'm careful to not hit him on anything. I lay him on the table, and Betty runs to get medical supplies.
She comes back arms full of bandages, and medicines. I take off the bandages on his leg. I quickly put a tourniquet on his leg to slow the bleeding. Then I disinfect the wound on both sides.
Once I'm finished I remove the pistol, and assault rifle. Now that he's disarmed I grab a zip tie. Binding his hands I move him to a spare room. I lock it behind me, and turn to talk to Betty.
"You know the military is hunting for him. How long do you think it will be before they come here?" I ask.
"It doesn't matter he needed our help. Do you think they would have patched him up. They would have questioned him for who knows how long. Then they would have locked him in a cage. After that they would put him on display." she argued.
I went to my room closing the door. I hate when she gets like this. I get ready for bed hoping tomorrow will be better.
Betty POV
Ugh my dad is so thick headed he can't understand. The military will treat the human as a trophy. A warning of what they can do to anyone.
I walk to the spare room as quiet as possible. The floorboards creaked with each step. I open the door to see the human still sleeping. So I walk over to him to get a closer look.
On closer inspection I spotted his dog tags. His name is Allen Tagert private. I notice a book in his pocket with a pencil. Could be his journal which would allow me to learn about him.
Reading the most recent entry reveals some stuff.
Journal entry day unknown
I've lost contact with another settlement. I don't know how many remain. No one picks up their radio, and I think the enemy is closing in. Patrols in my area have become more frequent.
Using some creative wiring I listened to enemy comms. It has confirmed to me that I am the last. They want to capture me most likely to torture me.
This will probably be the last entry for a while. I need to go, and get supplies from nearby. Hopefully they don't spot me.
Looking at the human I feel sorry for him. He's the last of his kind, and chooses not to give up.
Allen POV
I start to come to when I notice a furry standing over me. I react quickly, and roll off the table. Leaning heavily against the wall I stand up.
"Who are you?" I question, since this is not the one who answered the door.
"Woah easy you'll loosen your tourniquet." the female tells me. I look down, and see the tourniquet that's still too tight on my leg. I manage to loosen it getting feeling back in my leg.
"You didn't answer my question." I state.
" My name is Betty, and my dad is the one who opened the door." she answers.
"Thank you both for saving my life. But I need to leave before the army finds me." I state. I limp towards the door, but stop short as I hear footsteps. Their heading my way so I limp back a couple steps.
The door flies open revealing the furry who opened the door. Currently he's aiming a shotgun at my chest.
"I would sit down if I were you." he orders. I comply getting to the table, and manage to hop up with cuffed hands.
"So I guess this is the part where the military will arrive soon. Cause if so do me a favor pull that trigger." I tell him coldly. I knew it would come to this, I just wish it wasn't so soon.
Anna Brokers POV
How the hell did we lose him when he was in a cell. Me, and Veronica march over to Dom, and Rita.
"How in the hell did he escape?" Veronica asked threateningly.
"I don't understand it myself captain. One minute he's there we take our eyes off him, and the next he's gone." Rita explained. I take notice that their clothes are disheveled, and Dom has lipstick smeared near his neck.
"How long were your eyes off the prisoner?" I ask.
"No more than a couple seconds." Dom blurts out.
"That's funny. Cause it looks like you two took more time than that." I state. At my words Veronica also notices the clues.
"I swear if that human dies it will be both of your asses." she states. "Sargent how long till trackers are mobilized?" she asks me.
"Our only tracker on base was the guard in the armory. So roughly a few hours to wake him up, and another couple hours to get the scent." I answer.
"Fuck. This is bullshit. Notify me the moment that tracker is up. We find this human, and take him alive." she orders.
I hope we save at least one human in this war.
