The box of memories

As the door handle turned, the figure walked in. I scoffed "get out!" I said while pointing back to the door. "I just wanted to give you this" Bruno said while handing me a box. I rolled my eyes, I didn't want to see him but I was curious. "What is it containing?" I said. "Your mamás stuff that I had saved that she wanted to give you." I stared at him. "Where is she?" Bruno sighed, "she passed away when you was three. She's wrote you a note, she wanted me to give it you as you got older but I had to give you away." He handed me the note. I stared at it and put it on the side. "Slide the box under my bed" I said, he listened and slid the box under there so no one else could find it. He started walking out the room. "I hope you get well soon amor, come visit" and he shut the door on his way out. It was just me, and the box.
I checked the time and it was only 3:20pm, I decided I would go back to sleep until Isa brought my dinner.

"Ugh wake up so I can give you this food" she scoffed. I opened my eyes to see Isabela standing over me with a plate. "Oh sorry Isa" I said while taking the plate from her hands. "She's made it with healing powder so it should help this" she said disgusted while pointing to me. I rolled my eyes at her "whatever Isa" I said while laughing. "Oh and just cause we are cousins does not mean I will be nice to you, I'm surprise everyone else is I mean your father did give you up" she smirked and began to walk out the room, but before she got to the door I quickly made the door handle hot. She reached out and burnt her hand. "What the hell" she shouted while looking at her burnt hand. "Oh Isabela, looks like you've got such a bad burn there. Might want to be careful when playing with fire" I said while smirking. "Ugh" she said swinging open the door and slamming it behind her.

I ate the food that Julieta had made. I looked on my bedside table and just stared at the envelope.
I didn't want to open the letter, but I hated not knowing what she said. So I grabbed it off of the table, I started opening the envelope carefully, making sure not to rip the paper. I unfolded the note that was inside the envelope, and started reading.

If you're reading this then I am already gone. I hope you're okay. I know you won't have remembered me, so that's why I've made put box together so your papá can give it you when you're right of age. The box has all of the pictures we have together, and the stuff I wanted to give you. I don't know what you're interested in now but I hope you like it. I love you so much y/n madrigal don't forget that. You're so brave.

I lifted myself from off the bed, I was still so very weak but I was able to do this. I reached under the bed and with all my strength pulled out the box. Opened the lid and found some pictures of me, her and Bruno from when I was a baby. Books, some old toys of mine, and just bits and bobs. But at the bottom I noticed there was another note. I pulled it out and started to read it.

This is the only way I can speak to you and you'll actually listen.
Y/n the only reason I gave you away was because of Abuela. I didn't want to give you away. She knew that you had more than one power. For example When you were two years old, your body would overheat, and you would randomly disappear out of our sight. Your powers weren't fully functional, but they still worked just not properly. Abuela was scared about your power this is why we had to get rid of you. Abuela was scared of you. I never wanted this to happen I was against it, and so was the rest of the family, but Abuela insisted. I couldn't leave, that's why I never left. I needed to stay in the casita, so the only reason I left but didn't actually leave, was because I couldn't face seeing you knowing I had given you away, but at the same time I also wanted to be close to you. When I heard that you were back, I just really wanted to see you. God I must say you look so beautiful, just like your mother. She would be so proud of what a young lady you've become. I'm so proud of you y/n

I started at the note and threw it at the end of my bed. I then closed my eyes and became invisible. I didn't want anyone to see me. Just as I turned invisible my door started to open again. I pushed the box under the bed, and pulled myself from off the floor. Julieta walked in "y/n dear I've just come to get your pla-" she suddenly stopped and started looking around the room. "Y/n" I sighed and became visible again, but my legs were jelly. "Oh there you are, you shouldn't use your powers not at how weak you are" she came rushing over to me making sure I don't collapse. "Well my fire is fine" I scoffed. "Yes I know Isabela told me, you shouldn't have done that to her, the burn was pretty bad" she said looking disappointed. I started laughing "she deserved it" Julieta cut her eyes at me and I suddenly stopped laughing. I sighed "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that I was just angry." She looked at me "Next time you get angry, I want you to count backwards okay?"
I nodded "okay." And the second I said that Isabela walked in. "Now I want you two to sit down and talk, apologise, get to know each other." I gasped and sat down in a chair. Julieta walked out, it was just me and Isa.
