Later that day, we are getting ready for the game against Faroes Islands. I'm going to start in the midfield as Jorge made some key players rest a bit. I'll be playing alongside Aitana and Irene so I'm pretty confident, it's going to be alright. During the warm-ups, I stay a lot with Alba and Irene as they are starting the game too, we chitchat a bit and mainly we give each other pep talks. Irene is overthinking her position as a 6 but we both know she can do it easily as she does it in Levante.
While we go back to the locker room, I spot my family in the stadium and my mum waves at me like a crazy woman, I laugh and send her a kiss. Jennifer walks behind me and chuckles while waving at my mom too.
"She looks proud." Jen states.
"She is my Spanish side, she better." I laugh and we enter the tunnel.
"It's great they could come." We continue our talk.
"Yes, it's been a while since I've seen them, I miss them so much." I confess. "I'm glad they could make it."
"Wow, Worldie, you've got fans out here." Mapi whistles when she enters the locker room.
"What do you mean?" I frown and I feel Alexia's eyes burning through the side of my head.
"Spain shirt, black hair, tan women with a sign saying "Victoria, we love you." You're a lucky one." Mapi chuckles.
"Those women are my sister and my mum, Maria..." I inform her and all the girls laugh.
"Didn't know beauty was in the DNA." She smirks. "Care to introduce me after the game?"
"Fuck off, León." I show her my middle finger and Irene Paredes raises her eyebrow. "Sorry, mom."
I turn to my right and see Alexia still looking at me. I send her a small smile and finish my game preparation. Then, Jorge explains us the game plan, it's most likely going to be easy, but he wants movement, rhythm, and great abilities in front of the goal.
As we are waiting in the tunnel, Jen stops by me and hugs me wishing me luck for my first cap, then Alexia does the same, she hugs me, wishes me luck, and kisses my temple.
"You're going to be great." She whispers in the hug and leaves to the bench.
"See, that's Alexia loving someone." Leila whispers in my ear as she hugs me from behind while the UEFA cam films us. "Good luck, love."
"We'll do good." I say as we enter the stadium behind Lola, who is captain for once.
As the anthem starts, I look at my mom and see her cry, which makes me tear up too. I try to cover that quickly, but I know some girls spotted me. We walk to the bench to get rid of our jackets and Esther hugs me tightly.
"Do your best for her, she is proud." Our striker tells me with a smile. "But no more tears." She points at me playfully.
"I promise, only goals now." I wink and we gather with the team.
The match starts and we are doing great. After only two minutes, Esther manages to score after a good work of Leila on the left side. Then, we control the game and at the 17th minute, I intercept a ball with my head, sending it to Aitana, who dribbles in between the defenders and scores. I jump on her, and all the girls come too. First assist with la Roja.
After that, Alba scores assisting by Leila, and Aitana obtains a penalty, which Mariona scores easily. Just before half time, Esther scores her second goal thanks to Ona's beautiful work on the side. 5-0 at half time.
We walk back to the locker room, and everyone is happy. Jorge asks me to go even more forward on some specific play and I listen to him carefully. Once we are back on the field, we can feel how dominant we are, and Leila plays higher than what she is supposed to. I give the ball to Mariona, who finds Leila in deep. She doesn't need to control to send a beautiful pass to Aitana who scores her second goal.
"Well done, roomies!" I shout as Aitana high fives me.
"Your turn, Worldie." Leila winks. "You need to score."
I smile and we go back to play. One minute after, Esther scores again, what a striker... she is always well positioned, a real great player. Again, right after that, I get the ball in the midfield and give it to Ona on the right side, I continue my run and Ona's cross finds Mariona right in front of me, making it 8-0. 3 goals in 3 minutes.
But we couldn't stop here. At the 57th minute, Mariona finds me in between the lines, I give it back to her and after a one-two with Esther, she scores her third goal of the game. Magnificent. That's when Jorge starts to make substitutions which makes it harder to adapt but at the 70th minute, Aitana is replaced by Alexia.
I feel a rush of confidence in my body as she enters the game, and it feels immediately. Four minutes after Alexia's entrance, and after a mistake from one defender, the ball comes back to my feet in the penalty area, I dribble one opponent and shoot hard. The ball is a bit countered but goes in anyway. My first goal with la Roja. I point at my mum in the stand and turn to my teammates. The first one to be there is Alexia and she hugs me tightly before everyone joins.
After that, it's just really easy. At the 83rd minute, Alexia passes the ball to me, I give it to Ona, who once again manages to find the perfect spot in the box, finding Alexia's head or maybe more her shoulder. Everyone congratulates her and I'm the last one.
"I see what Jorge wants me to do, now." I chuckle and she pushes my head playfully.
"Still got a lot to learn, Worldie." She winks.
"From you, I'll learn any day." I smirk and she smirks back happily.
Right after this goal, Jorge makes the last substitution and I have to leave the pitch, which saddens me, but I did great, and I bet my mom is going to be proud, so it's the most important thing.
"Well done, newbie." Jennifer gives me my jacket and a bigger one, so I won't get cold.
"Thank you." I smile and sit comfortably enjoying the warmth and the scent of my double jacket.
At the end of the game, we all gather happily and then, I go to my family. My dad replays the game entirely explaining me what I did good or not. My mum just hugs me for ten minutes straight and my sister makes comments about my game too. After some minutes, I have to go back to the team, so I sadly say goodbye to them.
"Oh, and you'll tell your teammate that she smells really good." My mom shows me the jacket I have on.
"Yeah, sure." I smile back and while I walk back to the locker room, I wonder whose jacket can that be and why this scent is so comforting.
"I'm pretty sure you've got something belonging to me, miss Chamberlain." Alexia states waiting for me at the tunnel's entrance.
"What is it?" I frown unaware of what she is talking about.
"My jacket." She points at the jacket on my back, and I blush immediately.
"Oh..." I realize. "I'm sorry, Jen gave it to me when I went out."
"I know, that's why I was waiting for you." She smiles.
"And to say I thought I was special." I fake a pout giving her jacket back.
"Maybe you are." She winks at me and walks back to the locker room.
"By the way." I stop her. "My mom wants me to tell you, you smell good."
"She said "really good", but I'll take that." Alexia smiles brightly and continues her way.
I stand there smiling for a second and go to the locker room too. We celebrate, Jorge congratulates us, welcomes me officially to the team and we take our shower.
