"Hey Averly, did you complete your assignment?" One of my classmates ask me.
"Yeah," I nod at him while taking a seat at the cafeteria.
"Great, hurry, let me see," He says and I hand him my file hesitantly.
"Here you go," I say, smiling at him.
Biting my tongue, I open my laptop and start working on an assignment that's due tonight.
"Averly, can you help me with this quiz, you already have it right?" Another classmate asks as she takes a seat next to me.
I turn to look at her, "Um, I'm actually working on something right now that needs to be finished by midni-"
"So you're gonna pick some dumb assignment over me," She stops me mid sentence.
"Well, I need to fin-"
"Wow you're such a bad friend," She interrupted me mid sentence, again.
I start to panic a bit. I don't want her to think I'm a bad friend.
I look at her pleading eyes and then back at my screen.
She stares at me and she gets up to leave.
"No no no, I'm sorry, I'll help you!" I say while holding her arm so she doesn't leave.
She sits back down and a smile forms on her face.
"So you'll help me?" She asks while a big smile is on her face. Sighing, I nod my head at her, "Yes," I can finish my assignment later anyway.
"Perfect, I'll start it and we can discuss the answers side by side," She turns her computer on and logs in her laptop.

After helping in the cafeteria, I gather my things and head to the next class I have.
"Averly!" I hear as I enter the class. I turn my head and see one of the other guys I helped calling me to sit next to him.
With a polite smile I sit in the desk next to him and focus in front of me.
As soon as the professor explains this week's project, I get to work, only to be nudged in the next second.
"Averly can you explain what they told us to do?" He speaks and I almost lose it.
After class I keep sitting in the classroom, my head in my hands, elbows resting on the table.
Why can't I say no?
Why is socializing so draining?
Why do I always have to help?
Tears form in my eyes, I feel so drained.
