Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz have always been friends. From the moment they met each other, they instantly felt that "click" in their friendship. They have always been friends even through the toughest situations.
One day, it had been like any other day. Everyone piling into the station, getting ready for their big day ahead of them. Exchanging some words with each other and having conversations with one another. Suddenly, Eddie, who was talking to Ravi, was pulled from his thoughts when Bobby yelled for him.
"Diaz! I need your help real quick," Bobby called out from the loft of the station.
Eddie and Ravi exchanged some words before Eddie started walking up toward the loft. "Be right there Cap!" He shouted back.
Bobby and the rest of the crew had an amazing relationship with each other. They all felt like it was their home at the 118 fire station. They also all felt like everyone was just a blended family.
Eddie reached the top of the stairs and saw Bobby. "So, what do you need help with Cap?" He asked as he walked toward him.
"I need your help with moving this table over there." He pointed to the other table. "We're going to be having a family dinner together and we all know how big our family here at the station gets." Bobby chuckled a bit. His face suddenly turned serious.
Eddie looked at him with a smile across his face. "Alright."
Eddie and Bobby moved the table over to the other table that was there. They all knew how big their found family was and how many people would show up if they called it. Their found family was so big they needed two whole tables.
Buck quickly ran up the stairs to the loft. "Hello," he said, softly.
"Buck, you're here. I was afraid you weren't going to be here today." Eddie had said, a smile crossing his face shortly after.
Buck looked at Eddie with a concerned look. "Relax, it's only a couple of minutes. I was busy with something, so I apologize." Buck said as he began to smile. "But, I'm glad I did make it." Buck looks around to find out that all the tables and chairs had been moved around. "Looks like we're going to have a whole family here tonight." He added with a kind soft smile crossing his face.
The bell hasn't rung yet which struck them as odd but they were thankful it didn't because they haven't even had breakfast yet.
Eddie looks at him but doesn't say anything. He just walks over to the pool table and pulls out his phone, then looks at the floor.
"Glad you're here. Either I or Athena will be cooking tonight, I don't know what everyone wants so we'll take a vote later tonight." Bobby said, with a limp smile.
"That'll be nice," Buck said, beginning to smile but then his face went straight to a frown.
Eddie saw Buck and started to worry a little bit. He walked over to his best friend and had a confused and worried look on his face. "Are you okay, Buckley?" He asked, very worried for his friend.
Buck looked at him with teary eyes. He didn't know if he could talk, it felt like he couldn't, or else he might end up bursting into tears. "I... I... Yeah, I think I'm fine, thanks." He said.
Eddie looks at his best friend with a very worried look. "Buckley... I know that face." He started to grow more and more worried.
Buck looks at the floor, careful to not make eye contact with Eddie. He doesn't know how much longer he can go looking at the floor. He feels bad that he's not being truthful to himself, let alone his best friend -- the person he trusts the most.
Eddie steps closer to Buck so that they're standing inches apart from each other. Buck jumps at his presence as Eddie rests a careful hand on Buck's shoulder. "It's okay, Buck. I'm always here for you, you know this. If you ever need anything. Do you want to go talk privately? We can go take a walk around outside if that makes you feel better," Eddie calmly says.
Eddie has always been there for Buck and has always told him that he is always there no matter what. He didn't like seeing his best friend in pain. He wanted to try and do everything he could to make him feel alright.
At that moment, Buck bites his lip and clears his throat as he looks up at his best friend. He didn't exactly know what to say, and he didn't exactly know how to explain anything he was feeling. He didn't even know how Eddie would take it. He just stayed silent as Eddie kept a strong look at him.
"Anything you need, anything you want, I'm here." Eddie calmly added then took Buck's hand and held it for a minute. Buck didn't know what it was about his touch, but it made him instantly feel relief.
Buck starts to pull away just as Eddie grabs him and pulls him into a hug. Then that's when Buck decides he wants to talk.
"Eddie, I don't know how I can explain it, I don't know how you will take it, and I don't know what might happen if I do tell you. What do you say about going out to a coffee shop? We can have some coffee, and I can explain everything little by little to you?" Buck then starts to tear up and it makes Eddie feel bad.
Eddie takes a couple of steps back. "Sure, I would love that."
That's when the bell rings and everyone rushes to get into the vehicles and be off.
