You gawked at the large house before you. "Th-this is your family home?!" Papyrus was carrying the suitcases inside as he responded, "THIS PLACE WAS BUILT TO ACCOMMODATE A GROWING MAFIA, IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE LARGE."
"he's not wrong." Sans mused. "c'mon, wait 'til ya see the inside!" The short Skeleton all but dragged you inside to show off a rather elegant inside to match the outside. She entered the house into a rich person's living room, Sans had hung his fedora and coat and was flipping through a box of records until he found the one he was after and started it up. You've certainly never heard anything like it before. "What is this..?" Papyrus poked his head out from down a hall to the left. "METTATON AND NAPSTABLOOK. HUGE MONSTER STARS IN SHADE CITY!" He ducked back into the room. "it's pretty much all we got here, sorry." You shook your head. "Don't apologize, I like it!" You looked at the walls, lined with picture frames of tons of different Skeletons, some of them were paintings and even a couple ancient sketches that looked Aztec or something along those lines. "skeletons were big on family... before."

Sans took you to his room which was bare of items except a banged up dresser, a twin mattress, and the claw marks on the floor and walls. "i, uh, didn't sleep in here when my dad was alive and the don never bothered to fix it up." You put your arms around Sans. "This was where you first.."
"yeah, kinda. i officially went feral in here. for an entire year, pap would come in here to feed me because the don and dad would get into fights. over time, i stopped seeing him as a threat and saw him as someone to protect instead." She looked sad as she looked around. "Is there anywhere else we can sleep?" His parents room was the first place that came to mind, but he dismissed it quickly. He couldn't. He just couldn't. "there are extra rooms upstairs that many other mafia members used to sleep in when there were more of us." You nodded. "Ok... are you coming..?" Honestly, you were more worried about him than yourself, you didn't know what this room did to his mental state and the fact that his brother never fixed it up didn't help any. He lingered in there a moment longer before turning on a paw. "yeah. let's go."

"OK, SO WE ARE HERE. WHAT NEXT?" Papyrus asked as he placed plates of spaghetti on the long oak dining table. "i'm gonna talk to toriel." Papyrus bristled in alarm. "YOU'VE GOT TO BE JOKING. SANS, PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE JOKING?!" Sans looked uneasy but smiled nonetheless. "ok then, i'm joking." If a Skeleton could, Papyrus would have paled. "SANS, HOW COULD THAT POSSIBLY BE A GOOD IDEA?! THE LAST TIME TORIEL SAW YOU, YOU WERE FERAL AND MURDERING PEOPLE!!!" You shook your head. "Who's Toriel?" Sans sighed quietly. "the mayor. she doesn't like us very much, but she's the only one i can think of to turn to. they are boss monsters who've lived a long time, if anyone knows how to possibly get rid of someone without, uh, y'know, it would be them." Papyrus groaned, leaning over the table with his face buried in his hands. "I DON'T WANT TO KILL HIM EITHER, BUT I CAN'T LOSE YOU, SANS!" You looked between the conflicted brothers. "Why don't I go with than? I could vouch for Sans and maybe even start peace between humans and monsters?"

That's how you came to be following Sans through the City the next day, the Skeleton keeping you close as monsters hightailed it out of his path, looking absolutely terrified. You couldn't say you blamed them, you'd been the same before you got to know him. You supposed it was useful in this case, but you couldn't help but wonder what Sans thought of it. "Does it bother you, the way they fear you?" You asked quietly as you both walked along. "would be lying if i said it didn't. used to bother me worse when this whole mess started though." He replied equally as quiet. "at least now they don't shoot at us out of fear i'll kill 'em slowly and we can get where we want at a decent time. that's the pros." He looked at a building in front of you both. No doubt the capital. "i want you to stay behind me when we get there. in case things get messy." You didn't know what that meant, but with Sans history with these people, you couldn't imagine anything good. Sans hesitated than knocked on the door. A monster made of fire answered, the two staring each other down.

"What do you want, Skeleton." The fire monster looked on guard. "i need to talk to the mayor." The monster was already shaking his head, magic flaring. "No. No you don't. Not the Dreemurr's."
"He needs their help to give their city back from the Don's control." You spoke up from behind Sans. "[Y/N]..." Sans tried to hide you behind him. "Human..?" The monster looked intrigued. "... she's with me... trying to free her city too." The monster looked between the two of you. "... come in." The monster kept a very close eye on Sans as he guided you through the house and knocked. "Lady Toriel, Sir Asgore, a human and... THE Skeleton is here to see you."
"Let them in." You followed Sans inside and you both took your seats. He took off his hat. "m'lady. i... want to start with a formal apology. and i need your help with something important. i want to free both the human city and our city from wingdings." Sans looked away. "but i don't want to kill him, i don't... don't wanna kill anymore. i don't wanna watch more suffer." Toriel looked at him sharply. "What inspired this 'change'?"
"It's... a bit of a story, Lady Toriel, but Sans never wanted to be... the Skeleton you know." You spoke up. "... we have time. Please, make me understand."
