Frank was furious. Hazel had been so depressed because of Leo, Frank had been worried sick about her, and honestly, he had been a bit sad too. Leo was a pretty good friend, even if he was utterly obnoxious at times. But this, this was WAY too far. Showing up in middle of Camp, not telling his grieving best friends that he was alive the whole time. What was his problem?
He heard Hazel's voice in barely a whisper say "Leo?"
The silence got even more awkward as Leo stood there grinning like an idiot. Frank shook my head to clear it of my disbelief and my mind cleared. Leo's smile faded as everyone stared at him, and he got even more angry. How could he be so self-centered?
"Hey guys, I'm back," Leo blushed and waved awkwardly.
That's it, Frank thought. I'm gonna give this jerk-wad a piece of my mind.He stepped up and got considerably close to Leo. He could feel Hazel's fingertips brushing against his arm, a gentle attempt at restraining him from lashing out at the guy.
"That's all? 'I'm back?'" Frank's voice was dangerously quiet.
"We thought you died man, we were worried sick. And now you just show up with your new girlfriend and suddenly everything's fine?" His voice was getting louder and deeper with each word.
Leo looked profoundly ashamed. "Guys, I-I'm so sorry. I just, this was my plan. I know this could stop Gaea and I just really needed to get back to Calypso. I know you feel betrayed, I would be upset too, and-"
Hazel cut him off by coming forward and taking both his hands in his, her gleaming eyes staring straight into his. Frank felt a pang of jealousy but ignored it. The were friends, just friends.
"Leo," she said, her voice calm and gentle. "I'm not upset. You did what you had to, and luckily you came back to us." Hazel gave him a sad smile, and her expression hardened suddenly. "But don't you ever, EVER do that again!" Leo looked stunned for a second as she hugged him tight and a sigh of relief fell across the crowd.
As Hazel pulled away and people started heading back to their regularly scheduled programs, Frank went up to Leo.
"It's brave what you did man. Sorry about what I said earlier, it's just," He waited until Hazel was out of earshot, and leaned in a bit closer to Leo. "Hazel was scaring me. She felt like it was her fault you disappeared, and she was extremely depressed, verging on insanity. I was really worried about her, you know?" Leo bit his lip and became extremely interested in his shoes. He opened his mouth but no words seemed to find their way out.
Frank clapped him on the back, trying to loosen up the tension.
"Like she said, don't do it again!" Frank laughed and Leo became less nervous. "I'm glad to have you back man."
Frank sped up to get next to Hazel and took her hand in his. Leo grinned at Calypso and held her hand, walking towards Frank and Hazel.
Hazel looked down at Leo and smiled. "C'mon, we have a lot of explaining to do."
Together in peaceful silence the four half-bloods walked to the Big House.
