An escalating lesson

It has already been half an hour and Ethel still sat still in her classroom and learnt how to drink tea properly and behave really ladylike.

As if Ethel didn't know this. She had to learn this useless stuff as long as she could remember and still had to attend these lessons. How much she wanted to go outside and build a snowman or do a snowfight together with her little brother. But no, she had to sit here instead and drink her Earl Grey properly.

Just as Miss Caronell, the teacher, once again criticised Ethels posture, the sixteen year old girl had enough.

She banged her porcelain cup on the desk and as a result her tea split all over the tablecloth. But Ethel didn't care. She wanted to have fun and go outside and not sit here and waste her precious time.

"Miss Barrinson, what do you think are you doing, banging your cup and spilling the tea? I will not tolerate such a misbehaviour of yours. This is important for your future. What do you think will your future husband think about you, if you behave like a toddler? Nothing! How-", Miss Caronell began with her complaint, but Ethel already interrupted her.

"What I think? Well, I think that I can very well decide on my own what I do with my time. And as if such a stupid thing like drinking my tea will decide over my future! If I marry, I will marry out of love and if my husband really loves me he doesn't care either about proper etiquette. Therefore I will now go, goodbye."

Ethel knew that her behaviour was indeed inappropriate. And she also knew that her behaviour had consequences.

But Ethel felt good nonetheless. Because for once she had told her sight of things, even if that meant behaving like a child.

Just as Ethel went to the door, she heard the screeching voice of her teacher again.

"How dare you, you rude girl? This will have consequences. I will write to your father immediately."

Ethel didn't turn around as she answered.

"Whatever makes you feel better."

But yet something strange happened.

Instead of the words there came out a hiss, like a cat hissing at someone.

Ethels eyes went wide. What was happening? She couldn't speak anymore. Instead she was hissing and meowing like a cat.

And then she felt something warm and fluffy all over her body. As Ethel looked at her hands she noticed that she had ... fur?!

What was going on? Ethel was going loonic, she was sure about it.

And then the world shrank, everything was suddenly so big. That wasn't supposed to be right, was it?

This had to be a dream. Seeking help Ethels eyes searched for Miss Caronell - her eyesight was somehow way better now- but found her teacher unconscious on the floor.

Ethel panicked. She was afraid. Afraid of what was happening. And afraid of herself.

She ran out of the study room, thanking God that the door was already open.
