Part 2
March 7th 2018
*Peter's POV*
As I try to do my physics homework, I can't seem to focus. Every time I try to write something down, my mind wanders off and starts to think about Hazel. She seems so perfect but different. Her hair is brown with blond tips and it flows down her back and a few loose strands fall in front of her slightly freckled face. She has a hint of a British accent that you can slightly hear. I have only known her for an hour and yet I feel connected to her. I don't know how long she is staying here but for some unknown reason, I hope it's a while. It's now quarter to 7, so that means it's almost time for dinner. I didn't end up getting any work done but I don't think it would matter because it's just extra credit work. I close my books and head out of my room and then without thinking, I knock on Hazel's door.
When she opens the door, her hair is tied up in a messy bun on top of her head and she is still wearing her ripped clothes from earlier. "Hi." My mind feels numb. I know that isn't possible but it feels real at the moment.
"Hey," she says with a friendly smile on her face. "You knocked?" She questions. I nod quickly and then look down at my feet.
"Umm... Yeah, dinner is in fifteen minutes, if you want to come down with me?" My voice makes it sound like and question. I stand there awkwardly for a minute or so and when she doesn't answer I suddenly feel as if she doesn't want to so I add, "it's alright if you don't, too." But then she quickly shakes her head and smiles,
"Okay, Parker." It almost feels like she's Mr Starks, daughter, calling my Parker pretty much right after meeting me. "Let's head down." She says and walks out of her room, closing the door behind her. We walk down the most of stairs in silence till Hazel lets out one of the cutest sneezes ever.
"Bless you," I practically whisper. I look over at her and see a small smile forming on her face.
"Thank you," she giggles. I turn my head slightly as we reach the bottom of the stairs but then I look back and see her tucking a loose lock of hair behind her ear.*Hazel's POV*
Peter and I walk into the kitchen in tranquillity till Tony walks up past us.
"Hey, kids," He bursts. "Wait, Hazel, you are a kid, yes?" I completely forgot that no one knows me because I know them.
"Yeah, I'm seventeen."
"Ah, so you and Peter are the same age." Peter nods at Tony's comment. "Well, come on you two. Dinner's ready." Tony smiles then goes over to the table, sitting down next to Pepper. Peter and I then follow, sitting down on the opposite side of them. Soon everyone else comes and makes their way to the table. The food is spread across the middle of the table under silver dishes. Once everyone is seated, Wanda lifts the covers to reveal... Cheeseburgers? For some random reason, I would have expected something a bit more fancy like a huge roast Turkey and vegetables as it it was Thanksgiving. But then again, Tony was probably the one who got dinner.
"Dig in everyone," Tony exclaims. Everyone grabs a burger or two each and starts to eat.
"How many burgers do you want?" Peter asks with a wry smile on his face.
"Just one thank you," I reply. Peter shoots a web and brings a burger from the middle to my plate. "Thank you."
"Peter! Don't get your disgusting web stuff on my plate," someone loudly whispers from next to me. I turn to see who it is and when I look, I see Bucky, sitting there. "Who are you?" he questions.
"I'm–"
"She's a guest, Buck, so be nice." I hear Steve say, then popping his head out from behind his friend.
"My name is Hazel." I say, mostly because I know he'll be sarcastic and call me 'a guest' otherwise. He doesn't say anything else, he just turns to Steve and starts eating. I always thought that he would be nicer considering that he was friends with Steve. In the movies when he wasn't the 'Winter Solider', he was nice. I roll my eyes and look at Peter who has been looking at me for the entire inquire with Bucky. "Why are you looking at me?" I question Peter as he moves his eyes away from mine.
"I wasn't! I was just... I was looking at the painting on the wall." Lie. I know from the fact that he didn't make any eye contact with me and he's playing with his jumper right now that he is lying. I know that he's just embarrassed that I caught him but I don't care. It was cute watching him thinking of an excuse. After dinner, everyone departs from the table, leaving their plates where they were sitting. My parents always made Chole and I clean up after ourselves so this seems very weird. I stand up, out of my chair and start to grab all of the plates. Peter is the only one who didn't leave his plate, so when he comes back from the kitchen, he starts to help me grab the remaining dishes. "Thank you," I say.
"You seem to always say thank you to me." He laughs.
"Well, Parker. If you don't like me saying thank you, you shouldn't be so nice and helpful." I point out. Peter just laughs and grabs the plates from my hands, taking them to the sink.
"You know, you didn't need to clean up the plates," Peter says as he washes the dishes.
"Why?"
"We take inturns with clean up. Tonight was my night, just like how last night was Sam's night." Oh. That makes more sense. I didn't think superheroes were that lazy. "But, thank you for helping me." He turns, places a plate on the rack and then looks at me. I start wondering what it is that he's thinking as he glares into my eyes, not blinking, just observing my facial features as if he won't ever see me again. I don't choose to say anything about it, instead, I just grab a tea towel and start to dry the dishes.Once we finish cleaning up, Peter and I head back up to our rooms. As I'm about to go into my room, Peter lets out a slight cough.
"Hazel?" Peter says when he reaches his door. I look up from the ground and look at him. "I noticed you didn't have any other clothes so I was wondering if you wanted to borrow some of mine?" His voice sounds more like he's asking instead of offering so that's why I say;
"Sure, thank you, Parker." He smiles.
"Okay, well, I'm a lot taller than you so they may be a bit big for you, but... Hang on, I'll go grab something." He says before going into his room for a minute or two.*Peter's POV*
I rush into my room and then rammish through my wardrobe, trying to find something that might fit Hazel. I don't want to take too long so I just grab a black tee-shirt and 'Hello Kitty' pants that Mr Stark got for me a while ago and then leave my room. When I go out, Hazel is no longer there but her door is open. I go over and look in to see Hazel sitting in the hanging chair with a book in her hands. "Umm, here. I just picked up the first clean things that I saw." She just says thank you and takes the clothes from my hands and walks into her bathroom. I don't know whether I should leave or stay but by the time I decide, Hazel walks out of the bathroom with only my tee-shirt on and the pants in her hands.
"The pants were a little too big for me so–" She holds out the pants and smiles. "–Here." I walk over and take them from her while admiring how good she looks. The shirt only goes halfway down her thighs and her hair is tied into a messy bun.
"Hey, did you want to go shopping tomorrow? You know, to get some clothes or something?" I don't know why I just asked that even though I have school.
"Don't you have school tomorrow?" Damn, it's like she's reading my mind. I nod but then quickly shake my head.
"No– Well, yeah– But I can just tell Mr Stark that I'm sick or something so that I can take you to the mall." Argh. I've only known her for less than a day and I already have a crush on her. She smiles.
"Okay, but one problem. I have like, no money because it was on my phone. And that broke."
"I'll sort it out." I smile. "I'll see you in the morning," I say quickly before leaving her room. When I get back to my room, I flop onto my bed and stare at the roof. Damn, that girl is amazing. Just as I'm about to fall asleep, my mind goes to the empty promise that I made to Hazel. I don't have a lot of money that I can just spend on someone, let alone myself. I might just talk to Mr Stark in the morning. I close my eyes and within seconds, I'm out.
*For people who don't know, tranquillity means calm or quiet/ silence.*
