Chapter 3: Aftershock

YOU SAT THERE IN SILENCE,
you swiftly finished your food as Xingqiu and Chongyun walked out together to their clubs. You leave the cafeteria only to bump into a boy with white hair. His body covered in scratches and scars. "Oh, I'm sorry." you said. "It's fine, just my luck again." he sighed holding his dizzy head. "I'm so sorry, I'll bring you to the nurse if you want." you exclaimed feeling bad. "No, no. Miss Victoria is probably already fed up with seeing me there three times a week." your eyes lit with shock. "Anyhow, I'm Bennett. She's Fischl and he is Razor." another two students walked towards the both of you. You nodded and waved at them. "Well, I have to go. See you around Bennett!" he smiled at you.

"Gymnasium, ah perfect." you looked up above your map.  You glanced at the entrance and made your way in. As you walked through the booths you saw many clubs. The vocal club, the book club, the adventure club and even more. You finally decided to sit down and think about the clubs. You pulled out your notebook and wrote every club you saw and listed the pros and cons, like you always would. "These are all not for me.." you whispered. "Hey." Albedo appeared. "Having trouble choosing a club?" you nodded and went back to your notebook. He sat down next to you. "Ah, there's an open position in the council if you'd like." he said. "Really?!" you turned to him and squealed.

He nodded in delight and you followed him to the office. A girl with navy purple hair walked up to you. "Hello Albedo, I see you've finally found an assistant for Keqing?" she said. "Yes." he responded. You smiled at her and noticed another two boys sitting on the office chairs. There they were, Xiao and Scaramouche. You quickly turned back to Albedo and met the navy haired girl. "The name's Kujou Sara, Head of the Welfare committee." she said. An elegant girl walked out of the pantry and saw you. "Oh, hello! Apologies for my chaotic look. I'm Ayaka, head of School Spirit!" she stated. "My lady, wait up." Thoma walked out of the pantry shortly after. Your eyes widened while Ayaka nervously blushed of embarrassment. "This isn't what it looks like! Ayaka has been very busy with the banquet with only a few hours of sleep." Thoma spoke up breaking the awkward silence. "More like busy making out." Scaramouche responded as Xiao stepped on his foot. Ayaka and Thoma gulped and made their way out. "Well, that was a memorable first impression." Sara clicked her tongue. "Come on in." Sara opened the door and left as Albedo and you walked into the hallway of the actual workspace. You knocked on Keqing's door. "Yes?" she shouted out hoarsely. "Your new assistant is here, Keqing." Albedo said. She opened the door and smiled at you. You saw her looking a bit tired but she quickly started the conversation. "Thank you, I'm just packing up actually. I have a family thing going on. See you tomorrow!" Keqing hurried out. You shrugged and bid farewell to Albedo.

You grabbed your coat and bag in your locker and left the building. "Wait, let me take you home." you turned to see Xiao. You observed him looking nervous but agreed anyway. "I'm taking the bus." you responded. "I'll drive you home, please." Xiao answered. You smiled indicating that you were okay with it. He grinned at you back and ushered you to his car.

In the car

He pulled out his phone and asked you for your address. "[Address of choice]" you said. He nodded and navigated his way there. You stared out the window, processing what just happened. "I'm sorry for just now. I did it out of protection, are you okay?"
he broke the silence. You nodded and smiled at him gently. "My dad's going to so confiscate my car but all good." he said. "Who's your dad?" you asked. "Mr Zhongli." he muttered aloud, not sounding pleased. You remained silent for the rest of the ride. "Thanks for this, Xiao. I owe you for not taking the stinky bus." you chuckled. "Don't worry about it." he responded. He drove away after watching you step into the house.

You stepped into your house. "Mom?" you shouted. "Over here!" your mom's voice came from the laundry room. You walked in and hugged her. "Today was a crazy day." you complained to your loving mother. "Oh yeah? Let's go talk about it over some fast food." she answered. The both of you raced to the kitchen and ate while you discussed your day. Eventually, you retired for the night. "Night, love you mom." you hugged her tightly making way to your room. You showered, changed into your pyjamas and fell asleep quickly.

The next day

You stood up feeling sleepy as the birds chirped. "Shut up birds." you scolded the birds while changing into your outfit. You grabbed a banana, kissed your parents goodbye and rushed to school. You saw Albedo at the bus stop without bumping into him. You both boarded the bus seeing Ganyu and Xiao sit at the back of you. You smiled at them and arrived at school. "See you guys!" Ganyu exclaimed and did her patrols around the school joining Yanfei. "Ah, Y/N." Jean met you in the corridor. "As Keqing's assistant, you are to her office by 8 every morning. I suggest bringing coffee as you can get really drowsy in the morning. I really hope you can become Keqing's assistant. No one has ever lasted around a month without giving up. She pushes everything, a work that's due in a month? She crams and gets it done in 48 hours."  your eyes widened. "Noted, thank you for the tips Jean. It's 7.45 so I have time to be early." you responded. Jean nodded and headed off. You ran to the cafeteria buying 2 cups of coffee and a box of bagels. You rushed to Keqing's office and knocked. "Come in." a raspy voice invited you in.
