The Adopted Daughter

Meeting My New Forever Family.

It was two months since I was taken away from Daddy and Step-Ma and the Children's Services had finally found a couple who was a perfect match. There was only one problem. The couple lived in America! I lived in England and they lived in America.

I'm sure they never asked Daddy if  it was okay for me to be adopted by an American couple. They certainly never asked Step-Ma if I could go away to another country that was over 1,000 miles away from the place I was born and raised. 

"Is this really a good idea? I mean Elizabeth is only six-years-old. Should she really travel over 1,000 miles to go to this couple whom she may not even like." My foster mother, Rachel, said. 

"Seriously Rachel. The poor girl needs a mother and a father. She cannot live without them forever." My Social Worker said. 

I just walked away. Rachel had a dog who I loved giving pets to when I was younger. The dog was named Sunny and Sunny was a red-coated-retriever. 

"Am I really going to America?" I asked when Rachel came to tuck me in on the Thursday night.

"Yeah. They are coming to pick you up soon. I'm not sure of the day." Rachel said. 

I'm sure that Rachel knew what the day was. 

I slept as quiet as a baby that night. I woke up at 7:30. That was the time I normally woke. I hated waking at really late. Rachel always threatened me if I woke up any later than ten in the morning. 

I got out of bed, got dressed, folded my bed sheets, cleaned my room, brushed my teeth, feed the dog and brush my hair. The dog wasn't even mine to feed but I still fed him whenever I could. 

When I did all of my early morning chores, I decided to read my book until Rachel came down with her daughter, Simone. 

I really didn't like Simone. She was really horrible. Simone hated me as much as I detested her!

At ten in the morning, we got a knock on the door. Rachel opened it. It was a man, a woman and two dogs. The dogs were big and fluffy. They reminded me of giant versions of the cuddly dogs I had upstairs. 

"We're hear to collect Elizabeth Dawson." the man said. 

I recognized that voice! That man was my Daddy's favourite movie actor! It was Leonardo DiCaprio!

"Who are you?" Rachel asked. 

"I am Leonardo DiCaprio and this is my girlfriend, Camila. We're here to adopt young Elizabeth and take her to the United States of America where we will look after her." Leonardo explained. 

Was I really going to become the only child of the Hollywood actor, Leonardo DiCaprio!? I couldn't believe it! I was actually going to explode!

Rachel let Leonardo and Camila into the house where they took off their shoes and placed them behind the door. 

"Which one of you is Elizabeth Dawson?" Leonardo asked as he saw me and Simone look at him. 

"I am." I said.

"You're really sweet Elizabeth." Camila said. 

Did she really mean that or was she trying to make me like her for us to go to America and so Camila can treat me horrible like in my books.

"Do Children's Services know that you are adopting this young child?" Rachel asked. 

"Of course they know. We are the couple who are wishing to adopt this young girl." Camila replied. 

"Even though we live in America, the English Children's Services thought me and Camila were a good match for Elizabeth even though we never met. I don't know why they thought us as a good match, they just did." Leonardo continued. 

"I like your dogs." I said as I began to move closer to the giant bears that they were holding by their leads. 

"This one's name is Jack and the one that Leo is holding is called Jill." Camila told me. 

I decided to stroke Jack. He immediately made all my worries disappear. I found comfort in that large dog. 

"These dogs are called huskies. Jack has blue eyes while Jill has brown eyes." Leonardo explained. 

I loved Jack and Jill. I could already tell they would be my first friends in America. The place that I would soon call home.
