Poseidon sat on his stiff bed, slumped against the wall. His head was leaned back as he stared up at the monotonous, stone ceiling.
For the first time in over a decade, he felt something other than pure loathing and sorrow. He had devoted his entire life to the Ministry, and though he had his faults and misgivings, it was a slap in the face being treated as a criminal—being betrayed by his own team. The anger from that day rose in him every so often until he thought of what else he had lost—the more important loss: his family.
Percy and Sally.
They were his world. A small smile played at his lips. He had finally met his boy.
For the second time that day, Poseidon's cell door had opened, and in came his son's escort, Hermione Potter. Poseidon watched as she tentatively approached, giving him a small smile.
"Please don't break out," she pleaded, only half joking. "I'm sure you've thought about it, no offense, of course. But it would lead to an uproar and a lot of paperwork for me. I lead the DMLE, you see—"
"I know who you are, Hermione," he said, bemused. "Harry never shut up about you."
She laughed lightly. "Well, I want you to know that Harry told me all about your situation and I will do everything in my power to see to your early release."
"Really?" He asked skeptically. "Why, may I ask?"
"You don't deserve to be imprisoned," she said simply. "I've acquired my position recently so I've only just had access to your case, though Harry's told me a fair bit about it. And after reviewing it, I noticed some... anomalies."
He raised an eyebrow. "What kind of 'anomalies'?"
"I can't exactly..." She trailed off at the uptick of his eyebrow and a shudder passed through her. She steeled herself before continuing. "We determined that the ruling was biased. The whole purpose of the private council was for that to not be the case."
Poseidon hummed thoughtfully as he stared at the floor. He thought back to the trial, as if it hadn't been replaying in his mind every day he rotted inside this cell, and recalled how some of them did seem to outright dislike him. Even if they didn't vocalize it. Though there was that annoying wench, Vicky Sol.
"And how did the Ministry miss that?"
"I wouldn't have," she smirked. "I'm sure you know this already, but the Aurors that were under you, they lied during the trial."
Poseidon grimaced. "Yeah... but I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that."
"I'm afraid so," Hermione confirmed. "And because of that, among other things, I'm changing the ruling."
He glanced up at her skeptically. "Oh?"
