The betrayal must've felt unimaginable.

The sins of the father, or mother in this case, shouldn't be laid upon the children. Despite all she had done in the past, Poseidon would hate her even more if he found out she caused any harm to his son. Mental and physical.

Her only saving grace was that they'd resolved the fabricated issues between them on their own. Perseus and Annabeth were far better at that than she and Poseidon.

Putting on a brave front, she wrapped the wand in the cloth once more and made her way downstairs. His back was to her and she had to clench her teeth to not cry out in frustration. How is it possible that he looks exactly like him from the back, too? She thought exasperatedly. It was like the universe was taunting her.

"Percy," Athena called, the nickname foreign on her tongue.

He turned. "Yes?"

She was biting her lip, a stark contrast to the cold, confident woman everyone was accustomed to.

"I need to give you something," she started.

But then her mouth went dry when her eyes caught sight of the familiar pendant hanging from his neck. She swallowed as memories of all the times she'd seen it, played with it, kissed it at Hogwarts filled her mind.

"Mum?" Annabeth asked, confused.

"I'm sorry," Athena said, snapping out of her stupor. "Please give this to Po—your father for me. When he's free, of course."

If Percy noticed her slip up, he hid it well as he nodded and accepted the cloth-wrapped package. Then a thought ate at him. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out the first letter in the parcel he had received earlier this year. He looked over it for a second.

"Did you send me this?" He asked, holding out the parchment to her.

Athena gingerly accepted it and looked it over, reading the words carefully. She shook her head and handed it back to him.

"No, I'm afraid this isn't from me."

Percy released a breath and nodded.

"And Percy... good luck," she said, softly smiling at him.

"Thank you," he whispered.

With a last bid of farewell, he took Annabeth's hand and walked off.
