"Alright, everyone, it's gonna be girls versus boys," Reyna announced, tossing a volleyball up and down with one hand. "Losers cough up 5 Galleons each, capiche?"
Everyone nodded their agreement.
Quidditch was infallible when it came to a competition of what the best sport was. But they couldn't exactly play it here, and putting drunk teenagers on flying brooms probably wasn't the best idea. So Reyna suggested volleyball.
"This is gonna be a robbery," Clarrisse said eagerly.
"Yeah," Luke said, throwing his arm around Chris and raising his other fist. "For us."
The boys cheered while the girls rolled their eyes. They hurled insults at each other that were starting to get more and more personal.
Percy would've joined in on the playful bickering if his attention wasn't stuck on a certain blonde haired beauty by the name of Annabeth standing on the other side of the makeshift court, a hair tie held between her teeth as she gathered her curls to tie them up. She wasn't even trying but she was always so drop dead gorgeous. And she must've felt his gaze because her eyes snapped to him and she smirked like she knew exactly what she was doing to him. She winked and blew him a little kiss to which he painted a heart with fire ink in the air. Annabeth laughed and did the same. Cornballs, both of them.
"Hey, that's another thing," Reyna interjected, walking up to him and jabbing a finger into his chest. "No wandless magic during the game, mister. That goes for you too, Annabeth. You two are already dating, you're not impressing anyone."
"Wasn't planning on using it," Percy huffed out a laugh.
"Same," Annabeth agreed, batting Reyna's hand away from Percy and sliding under his arm. "But now that you mention it..."
"Ay dios mio, no, nope." Reyna shook her head. "I'm not dealing with you two flying around. Or setting the ball on fire, or—or turning it into a fucking snake or something."
"Aren't you Slytherins supposed to like snakes?" Bianca wondered.
Nico let out a groan. "Forget that. You guys have been so annoying since you learned that shit." He pointed at Percy accusingly. "Especially you, Perseus. And you don't even bother teaching us."
Percy snorted. "You never asked." With a flutter of his fingers, he turned Nico's black shorts a hot pink. "That's a nice look on you, bro. Really fits that corpse-y complexion of yours."
"Change it back," Nico whined, looking down at his pants with distaste. "Fuckin' hell, mate. This is such an ugly color."
Annabeth giggled and took mercy on him.
"Okay, 'nuff talk," Thalia barked. "If you have a dick, stay on this side. If not, to the other side you go. Move it, people."
Percy laughed and Annabeth kissed his cheek before letting him go. "You're going down, Seaweed Brain."
"We'll see."
The game was on and Clarisse had the first serve.
Her big fist hitting the orange ball sent it to their side like a fireball.
Percy stifled a laugh as Connor struggled to intercept it. He wasn't able to, ending up fumbling and dropping it onto the sand with an anticlimactic thud. A point to the girls. Clarisse had capitalized on Connor's incompetency, and gotten them three more points until Beckendorf surged forward on her following serve, striking it back even harder and splashing the ball in the sand on their side to get the boys their first point.
"Keep your head in the game, Con," Luke berated with a smack to the back of his head.
Connor smiled sheepishly. "My bad."
