El Hopper woke then next morning to the familiar sound of her adoptive father's voice, telling her that she had 10 minutes to get ready for school. Ugh. school.
El didn't want to have to face people today. Not the party, definitely not mike, and the thought of having to speak to max today made her want to throw up. her head was a tornado of thoughts that all seemed to revolve around the sweet girl she had payed a visit to the night before.

eventually, el had found the strength to get up and get ready, before walking to school in the chilly january air. mike wasn't waiting for her at the school gates like he normally did, but that was expected after the break up. what wasn't expected, was that el couldn't find max. she hadn't turned up to first period, p.e, which they had together, and after some investigation, el discovered that max hadn't been in any of her classes all day, which worried the girl greatly.

in actual fact, max had gone to school, but when she saw el waiting at the school gates, playing with a strand of hair aimlessly, the red head's stomach had flipped with nerves, and she had clumsily sprinted the other way towards the bus station, her destination: starcourt mall.

"Robin." max said blankly over the counter of ice cream parlour scoops ahoy.
"max? what're you doing out of school? and why are you so out of breath? you're not running away from home are you? because if so you can totally camp at my pla-"
max rolled her eyes at robins habit of talking 100 miles per hour. "no. i need your advice on something. please?"
"um ok, one sec." and with that, robin called over her shoulder aggressively for her workmate steve to take over for her.

"so. my advice. go." robin said, plopping down into one of the booths scoops had to offer. max took a deep breath before explaining everything:
"el climbed up to my window last night at midnight and kissed me. i confessed to her, via an extremely humiliating poem, and now i'm scared because she knows i like her and i don't know if she actually likes me back or if she just feels bad for me and i'm just-" but, to her great annoyance, max was cut off by a burst of robin's laughter.
"sorry," max said, "but i'm struggling to see what you find so incredibly funny."
robin continued laughing, eventually starting to calm down, she said "well, max, i'm struggling to see how you could be so naive!" robin gave max a sympathetic smile, before continuing. "let me get this straight. you confessed to el."
"yeah."
"your best friend."
"mhm."
"she kissed you, the very same day."
"it was at night, but sure."
"and you're questioning her feelings for you?"
with that robin burst out laughing again. max shot her an annoyed glare. "i'm sorry," the brunette said in response, "but if i had a girl climbing up to my window at night to kiss me, i would not be complaining."
"so you think she likes me?" max said hopefully.
"my sweet sweet child," robin purred, taking both of max's hands in her own. "go talk to her. she's madly in love with you, and if you can't see that then i hate to say you might take the title of biggest dingus over this guy." she gestured over to steve serving ice cream to a group of girls max recognised to be a few years older than her.
"thanks robin." she said with a slight smile. the two hugged goodbye, robin wishing her good luck, and max started running back to the bus station, wanting to catch el as she got out of school.

i started writing this before s4 came out, so i'll continue in the setting of s3 (no newer characters i'm afraid :/ ), thought i'd add that incase anyone was wondering why robin still worked at scoops. feel free to dm me ideas of what you'd like to see max and el get up to in this fic, as that might give me more motivation to write !! thanks for reading!!
