𝐌𝐚𝐱'𝐬 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦

max and el were hanging out at max's house. the sun was setting, leaving the sky a purple-pink haze. a few clouds swayed in the cool, evening breeze, as the quiet girls sat at the window of max's bedroom on the top floor, dangling their bare feet in the peaceful evening air. the sweet smell of el's freshly shampooed hair filled max's nostrils as the brunette rested her head on max's shoulder - if it had been anyone else, max would have pushed them away, as she liked to have her own personal space. but it was el, and things felt different tonight. they sat in silence for a couple of minutes, taking in the view of hawkins below, the town el had taught max to love. max felt her heart flutter as she looked down at the girl she adored, seeing her in a completely different way

it must just have been because i was dreaming max muttered to herself as she continued to watch the dream play out in her head

she continued to take in all of el's beauty, something she hadn't noticed this much in her best friend before. the fluttering in her heart began to pick up the pace, as her eyes traveled from the brunette's dark, oil spilled eyes, down to her perfect nose, looking rosy in the cool air, and finally settling on her lips. they looked... perfect - a dull shade of pink, soft and plump, just the perfect place for max to put her own...
"max! why're you staring at me? got the hots for ur best friend??? i wouldn't blame you" el said jokingly and shot max a wink. max was startled, too startled to form words, and el seemed to get the picture "oh my god you do! guys! GUYS! MAX HAS A CRUSH ON ME" el burst in to a roar of laughter, and from the houses down below, mike, will, lucas, and dustin emerged from their doors, all laughing hysterically. max felt her face burn in humiliation, and tears began to form like windows over her eyes.
"how could i ever love a little lesbian like you????" el said in between splutters of laughter. suddenly, the whole town began to laugh along as they emerged from their houses, looking up at max still sitting in the window. tears now streaming from her eyes like tiny waterfalls.

as the flashbacks came to an end, i felt tears dampen my eyes. it all felt to real. not the scenario of the dream, no, el was far to sweet to say/do anything like that. what felt hauntingly real, was the way i felt... about el.
i had known el for four years, ever since i had moved to hawkins in '84, but we became inseparable in '85, and that's when i started to notice. i noticed el, all of her. and although it filled me with anxiety and awkwardness, i knew that "just friends" didnt feel the same way i felt about el.

el was different.

it was now 05:55, and i would be getting ready for school in five minutes on a normal day, but since i was up already, i made a head start by pulling on some washed out mom-jeans, then shoving a yellow tank top over my head, and finally covering my pale arms with a red, striped flannel.
i looked in my vanity mirror (which i never used, because make up confused me). for some strange reason, i wanted to make an effort today, i mean, i had the time!
i brushed out my uncontrollable hair, and pulled the front in to a half- up half- down style. i put in some hoop earrings (which took a while, as i hadn't worn earrings since christmas last year). now for the part i was dreading... the makeup. i began with a clear mascara, which applied well. then i used some blush (not too much) and finally, smeared some cherry flavoured carmex over my lips. it wasn't much, but it was more than i had ever worn to school. i hopped nobody noticed, but then again, there was one person i was trying to impress...

hey guys!
again, thank you for reading. idk if you've noticed, but the last two chapters have been in max's perspective. i will always state whose perspective the story is coming from in each chapter
enjoy!
